The City Council voted to defund it. Twenty-four hours later they folded.
The easiest place to cut spending is to remove means testing
Starting today, every one of the 49,000 students in Seattle Public Schools gets breakfast and lunch for free, every single day of school. No one has to qualify. No dividing line between the kiddos whose families pay and those whose don’t.
I’m curious the amount of money it cost to monitor and enforce limits versus just providing to it.
I can’t WAIT to VOTE this SOCIALISM out!
-LITERALLY Republican Voters whose Kids NOW get to Finally eat Lunch!
Damn those socialists! Whatever will they think of next? Free childcare?
Worse! A basic income so you have the time and resources to raise your children yourself and the freedom to spend your life as you wish.
Dont get me started! You WANT people to think the govt should actually think of the public? Think before you speak, man!

Do the buses and light rail next
Kids already ride free in Seattle, and many adults do by simply not paying.
and Im sometimes one of those adults! Im saying apply the same model, rather than going the other direction and adding turnstyles, which has recently been discussed :/
It’s not a free lunch, it’s being paid for by removing something else from the budget.
“Wilson pushed back on pulling it from a general fund “already facing a $175 million deficit,” and the city landed on unused money from an affordable housing project instead”
If only you had been eligible for Dolly’s Imagination Library, you too could read for yourself
So the city’s already $175 million in debt and they’re adding more debt through “free” school meals.
It’s just going to increase the interest payments you have on your debt. There’s nothing free about these meals.
Being eligible for Dollys imagination library isn’t going to change basic facts. Adding more debt to debt, is just going to erode the cities ability to provide services
Again, reading helps. The general fund is facing the deficit…you don’t know how the city budget works do you?
