D'Alpuget's lust for life endured into her senior years. Her family described her as a woman who "lived life on her own terms".

    I was surprised by the coverage this death received yesterday. When you need to remind people who your spouse was and why you were famous for 15 minutes in the 90’s, I don’t know that you are exactly famous enough for several news articles about your death.

    Nothing against her, just if you only provided her name I wouldn’t have had a clue who she was.

      She was a known author though. Her biography of Hawke was on so many shelves in homes you visited in the 1980s. And I remember studying Turtle Beach as part of an Australian Literature unit at UNSW in the 1990s. Like, she was a serious author. But of course popularly she was just the ‘other woman’ who broke up the Bob/Hazel marriage.
