I’m running LineageOS without google. The default browser doesn’t have ad blocking. On my laptop I’ve gotten pretty used to an ad free experience with librewolf and uBlock origin. Anyone have a recommendation for a browser on F-Droid with a solid ad blocking experience?
I use ironfox I think it may be from an added repository though.
Fennec!
It’s basically just Firefox with some privacy upgrades like removed Mozilla telemetry. Available right on default FDroid repos.
You can install uBlock Origin natively into it. The full version. Grab Privacy Badger by the EFF while you’re at it.
Plus by not using a Chromium browser you fight against Google’s control over the web.
IronFox has it’s own repo and you can add uBlock origin
TIL about adding more F-Droid repos. Wonder why they aren’t on the main one?
Security reasons I believe. Supposedly Accrescent is one of the securest app stores where you can also get an AppVerifier and IronFox for example.
If you new to this you might want to check out Obtainium too!
I’m running waterfox with ublock origin, would surprise me if that’s not available there?
not seeing it! https://search.f-droid.org/?q=waterfox&lang=en
You’re right, apparently it’s been in the works for a long time but it’s not there yet https://github.com/BrowserWorks/Waterfox-Android/issues/40
Sounds like fennec should be a similar experience, haven’t used it myself but others here seem to recommend it as well.
Ironfox come with UBlock Origin installed. A word of caution - I always find that browser very slow loading pages.
If Brave interests you their fdroid repo is https://brave-browser-apk-release.s3.brave.com/fdroid/repo
Brave should not interest you.
Until Mozilla makes their browsers secure on Android, I’ll use Brave.
What’s insecure about it?
