Glad no one was hurt! Driver was probably confused and then embarassed. This is the kinda story that ought to prompt the installation of bollards at entrances. We cannot wait for an injury or death to install them.
The dutch solved this by colouring the bike lane orange. Yes occasionally we add bollards but the entrances to 2 lanes often end/start in protected intersections
Stick around. You’ll see that paint only works in high trust cultures. Bike lanes are constantly disrespected by drivers most places.
I’m not talking about trust, I mean two enclosed single bicycle lanes that merge at a bicycle crossing before entering an enclosed 2 way bicycle lane.
But didnt the bike lane have a speed bump to deter drives from driving into it? What would some colors do?
When you colour 80% of all bike lanes orange the defence that a driver didn’t know it was a bike lane becomes moot.
Needs to be criminally prosecuted with confiscation of driving licence + possibly car
Police and courts are a poor substitute for better infrastructure.
Are there going to be any resources put towards prosecuting this driver? Of course not.
Honestly, a lifetime ban from driving would be the best option short of life in prison for reckless endangerment. The guy should have slashed her tires.
