Practically every image I upload to my user’s storage increases in size by 10-250%. It’s most apparent with PNGs I optimized but also happens with any random jpg from the web.
I’m guessing that this is an attempt at optimizing that does not check if the optimized result is larger than the original?
Example 1:
- 39.7 KB https://media.piefed.social/posts/cN/dd/cNddFtXPxdUreK3.jpg
- 34.6 KB https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/67522_700b.jpg (this is the file I uploaded to piefed.social/user/files)
Example 2:
- 516.1 KB https://media.piefed.social/posts/zU/Me/zUMeYOfy3Es9ZWN.png
- 190.9 KB https://i.ibb.co/VYXP9D8j/scrsh-20261006-214735.png (this is the file I uploaded to piefed.social/user/files)
(This is NOT about differences in filesize calculation - KB vs KiB - I checked)
Related: Am I able to access “my user’s storage” to delete files? Every time I upload a file it shows the history, including triplicated uploads.

Far too many zuckerbergs for my liking
Under Account -> View profile there should be a Files button in the sidebar. From there you can see and delete your uploaded files.
Heh… the one place I didn’t look, even though it seems so obvious now, thank you!
click file => More => Delete
or
Account => View Profile => right sidebar, top => Files
