I don’t think there’s any law like that in the US. If there were, 2 out of 4 national supermarket chains local to me are breaking the law and have been for years

Trust me, it’s there, it’s just in fine print. The fact that you don’t know about it serves only to reaffirm my point.
Next time you go grocery shopping, look carefully and you will see that every price-tag for food has a little cost by weight or quantity measurement attached to it in fine print.

It’s a matter of law and was introduced specifically as a way to squeeze people using food-stamps by showing that they don’t deserve aid since they don’t always buy the cheapest options.
