Lunar calendars, like the Chinese and Jewish ones, have leap months for the same reason the Gregorian calendar has leap days: to keep our seasons in line. It’s an entire, extra doubled-up month. However, one would say that year has 13 months, not 12. (At least for the Chinese calendar, not sure about the Jewish one.)

Rexall and Well are owned by the same company. Rexall is on Well’s website, and Rexall expanded their offerings to include products from Well that they didn’t previously have. Also your can pick up Well orders at Rexall stores, and they share loyalty rewards. I certainly prefer them over Amazon and Shoppers Drug Mart where the same or comparable items are available. I still go to a local, independent pharmacy for meds, though.

Canada produces good content that we should be enjoying. CBC Gem is free with ads or for a reasonable, low cost ($7). CTV also carries Canadian stuff, though not as much as CBC. It also has some free offerings (not sure the subscription price). It is part of Bell, of course, but at least it is a Canadian conglomerate and not an American one. And both are available over the air, if you are in an area that receives their signals.

My dad (not even American, but he would 100% be Republican if he were) will randomly bring up Obama and Biden and blame them for the economy, and even blame them for what’s happening in Iran. He claims that Trump had no choice but to attack Iran because of what Obama and Biden did to the economy 🤦🏻‍♀️

The philosophy of libraries are great, but the reality is that they are cost-centres that are usually financially neglected. Public libraries especially, IT depts especially especially. Ask any librarian or library worker ☹️

The author of Heated Rivalry donated $300k to save five libraries that were slated to close due to underfunding. That’s wonderful news, but she’s only bought them one year. But hopefully her celebrity and the donation brings enough attention to the matter. We need to vocally support libraries!

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear that. As a non-American, I didn’t realize the food safety situation was this dire. What an unnecessary, pointless death. How many more until the people finally turn on the government? Food is about as non-partisan or bi-partisan as you can get.

I honestly don’t know if the demand for no French was being ridiculous on purpose (i.e., to ensure Canada does not accept and then they cry about it), or if it comes from a deep inferiority complex of only being able to speak one language. Or maybe both.

Agreed, the whole “every episode is a different genre” is tiresome. I think that would have been fine for just one season, with some reason for that season to be like that. The show feels inconsistent and discontinuous, which is generally not what people like to experience. A good show may have both good episodes and sucky episodes, but still stand as at least the sum of its whole, if not more than its sum. SNW is kind of the opposite, where even if you have good individual episodes (and they’re not all good), the whole does not stand together.

I do appreciate the experiment in television and story telling (one of the reasons I loved Fringe way back when, even when the “science” was pretty awful), but I think they should have learned earlier. Oh well, too late now.

Speech-to-text (a type of AI) has been around for a fair good years, but now they’re being paired with generative AI. This is the kind of thing that shouldn’t be paired with a generative LLM. A language model to identify words? Yes. Generative? No.

Where I am, there’s a requirement for 15% (I believe) of new condo developments to meet accessibility standards. You wouldn’t believe how people—potential buyers, not developers—are against that, saying it’s too many. That’s just new developments. All the existing old stock is not accessible, so that percentage of total accessible living spaces is, actually, still tiny. But it’s still too much to accommodate accessibility.

Literally everyone is one accident, illness, or old age away from being disabled in some way. I can’t believe how stupid and short-sighted people are. (Maybe that’s their disability.)

As cheers_queer has experienced, “flood” means something specific in insurance. It’s wise for everyone to check your specific policies (even if you’re not currently experiencing water in your home). Water that comes up from your pipes/sewer, fresh water that enters your home over land, and salt water can be referred to and covered (or not covered) separately, depending on your specific policy.

It’s disappointing how many high profile people have signed on to this project. I understand that the story was integral to many people’s lives (myself included) and, yes, the career opportunity is huge, I’m sure the pay is good… But there’s a very direct line from these jobs to harming innocent people.

I quit my job boss was lying and enriching himself, but at least he wasn’t really directly harming people. Without exaggeration, I think nothing would make Rowling happier than if trans ladies were killed or killed themselves because of her influence. How can people support that? It’s a moral bankruptcy.

“Unfounded attention”, says the company that “was issued a non-compliance rating at one of its Winnipeg sites” and because a Health Canada inspection found they “did not carry out sufficient corrective and preventive actions when required.”.

The fact they will take plasma twice a week from a person compared to Canadian Blood Services’ once every two weeks tells me enough of their care and concern for those selling plasma.

If someone is coming from Wix, I absolutely do not recommend Drupal. Not that Drupal is bad (it’s what I prefer), but it is very, very much more involved than Wix. Wix is for simplicity. Drupal is for control.

You’re just telling on yourself that you just don’t care where your money goes. And, you know what, that’s your call to make. But what I don’t understand is why bother attacking people who choose differently than you? Why do you care what random internet people you don’t even know think of you? Who would even know how you choose to spend your dollars if you didn’t say anything?

If you don’t care where your dollars go, just own it. “I’ve got too many other more immediate things in my life to worry about.” Okay, then. Fine. Just own it, and stop being so insecure about it. If you’re right, then you’re right.

“You’re not perfect, so don’t even try” is an incredibly childish and immature stance to take. That’s like saying no one should ever try or learn anything new because they’re not masters of it immediately. I mean, if that’s the attitude you have, why should you even bother anything ever? What is the point of your life if you’re not the best or perfect at everything? You may as well just go and die already.
