  • I absolutely detest Aaron Sorkin’s writing. I hate how entertaining it is, I just watched an hour’s worth of the newsroom clips. I enjoy it, but I can’t stand all the smug, self-satisfied liberal drivel. West wing is even worse in that regard, it’s chock full of apologia for the worst active war criminal on the planet, given the veneer that he’s just a guy trying his best to save the world he’s in the process of murdering.

I dislike video essayists read one (1) book and make a 40-120 minute video about a large topic using mainly that one book. This is also one of the good reasons to look down on the musical Hamilton and the people who like it too much.

I may be skirting the definition of small but DRM and client side anti-cheats. Some of them are basically malware, sifting through the user’s files. Fuck knows what’s stopping it reading my browser, getting my banking info or email. Besides, a DRM’s only as good as how long it takes folks to produce a crack in the first place. Once it’s out there, best publishers can do is lock out further content, and truth be told, I’ve yet to find any such content that’s worth the money or the time to play.

I really dislike the Legend of Korra. I adored Book 1 as a media illiterate kid. Then it got worse and I got older. The gang isn’t very likable, much of their adventures feel like a waste of time, the gaang’s story got butchered and the world building got obliterated. I seem to be in the minority in disliking even Book 3, Zaheer, and his flying technique. (stranding still, floating isn’t a natural behaviour of air and isn’t encompassed by being the leaf)

  • It’s not your fault in any case. The authors use that well known medieval vibes setting out of ignorance and convenience. Not maliciously perhaps but they clearly don’t give much of a shit about historical accuracy or coherent political-economical-social orders that can survive scrutiny.

The reason it’s always European medieval vibes is because everyone in the Anglosphere and adjacent ones are familiar with them. Think about it, among stories that gain popularity with western audiences nobody tries to specify the position of a duke, but anything inspired by west-Asian or Chinese history is followed a 90 second/2-3 page explanation.

  • Implying liberals hold themselves to a standard like reading up on things before commenting on them

Even book worship has become a form of avoiding reading, people are just looking up “[Revolutionary] [topic]” to find some passage that seems to support their view and not bothering to read the pages of context before or after.

  • I’m of so many minds in this, no idea how to feel.

Worst case scenario, this is actually a plan by the intelligence fuckers to cover their backsides better. The global south and any leftist worth a thing is now well aware and wary of anything that has to do with the NED. This could be a way to supply funds to their fascist puppets with even less scrutiny and notice.

I’m really hoping this is just the bourgeois dictatorship putting itself through interesting times. Decades of anti-communist propaganda accrued to a debt to truth, wouldn’t it be wonderful if they’ve fallen for their own deception and that debt is due?

  • Astrology is extremely interesting as one of the practices in the interaction of the history of science and the history of religion. It’s quite a marvel to read what came from stargazing and how it shaped the stories that become myths and religions, comparing how different cultures interpreted the same astronomical events and so on. Most things that past societies did looking higher than the nearest ash or cypress tree falls under astrology. Yet none of that means you should take a goat to the nearest priest trained in haruspicy.

As for the interesting things one can glean from some scam test, Orson Welles spent one day as a fortune teller and at the end of that day he was able to surmise a woman had recently lost her husband seemingly out of thin air. So don’t become a shut-eye, don’t needlessly lend your own unconscious analysis to things that don’t deserve it and don’t fall for something you dug for yourself.

  • The number is eeriely well written sarcastic comments here is almost concerning

I dream of putting liberals in therapy contraptions like in a clockwork orange and make them watch videos of IOF just assaulting and murdering unarmed people, using people as human shields, aftermath of their bombings and so on. I’ll tell them it’s mcu if I have to

  • I heard it a few times, mostly about Caesar’s funeral. Every time the person talking/writing about it has the tone of “look at these crazy people giving in to hysteria.” I couldn’t say it’s definitely true, not my area.

You’re completely right on how they’re portrayed generally. Storytellers will regularly mention generals making a fortune out of loot and slaves, neither the teller not listener will ask what that entails or how moral it is. Folks read Cicero proudly talking about being a slumlord and not bat an eye, at this point I wonder if they just compartmentalise it all, turn off major parts of their brain when the subject of certain ancient peoples comes up.

  • Disaster management is preparing for the worst scenarios, that includes having more equipment then just enough for the people already signed up to do the work. I didn’t say or imply that they should just hoard stuff and forget about it.

California has wildfires regularly. They should have a whole lot of people on the payroll as regular firefighters, train potential volunteers to assist in fires, and have trucks, planes etc ready for this exact situation. This state and its cities are extremely wealthy. I can criticise countries like Greece and Turkey when they make errors, call out blatant mistakes, but at the end of the day I won’t call them imbeciles as I do people in charge in California and LA. One has all the resources in the world, the other doesn’t.
