Re direct expose: ive got a Cloudflare tunnel so I can keep my firewalls tight, I don’t directly expose anything ever, not since I made a Minecraft server directly exposed in 2018 and within hours had already had over 100 unidentified attempts at connection from who knows where.

I highly recommend using Docker, it’s probably the easiest way to set it up if you’re a linux or intel mac user.

Alternatively: Comfy.org has the windows and Apple Silicon versions as executables.

Deffo! I run my models on a 3070 with comfy-ui in low vram mode so it uses my DRAM as well, you need a good amount of DRAM if you’re doing it that way though, I have 64 gigs and still get OOM errors when using dram for AI models.

The 4070’s 12 gigs of VRAM should cut it though!

There are adapters that can be used to refill them with co2 bottles purchased from a local supplier though. IMHO a 1 time purchase from a US company that then liberates you from them via enabling local production of your stuff is acceptable, for some it may not be.

Look at civitai and huggingface for models to employ. The Hentai type generators are easy to employ in places of any other image generation model, if you want specific poses you can use lora networks to modify the output, if you want video you’ll want to look into hunyuan video or something of that nature, keep in mind you’ll need big VRAM for that, I recommend using a smaller quantized gguf for hunyuan video generation because it can break the process into smaller chunks at the expense of longer processing time.

My one complaint in your comment is the “if you’re a good artist you’ll find work”, it’s simply not true.

I’m a shit artist (im an untrained outsider slapping paint on surfaces to vaguely resemble what my clients ask for) and I find work, yet none of my friends who are legitimately talented are finding anything.

I recommend you just pick one of the big 4. Debian, Ubuntu, mint (all Debian based, all solid), Fedora is great if it works with your hardware (some configs are just bizarrely and inexplicably wayyyy slow with Fedora). Since you’re a gamer, if you have the right hardware (amdgpu) go for bazzite or smth like that and you’ll have a console experience with a desktop as a secondary experience.

Keep it simple mostly though. The less fingers are in the pie the less likely it is someone has dirty fingers, don’t go fuckin around with unvetted, unpopular distributions. If you have changes you wanna make, make them yourself as you learn what is safe. Never make a change you don’t understand, and don’t go follow someone’s list of unvetted changes just because “muh performance tho”.
