If someone is board game shy, I like to pull out Century. It’s a fun game that’s pretty short and has plenty of strategy, but best of all the rules are a single page. Quick explanation of the goal, the resources, and what you can do each turn and we’re off to the races. If they’re ever confused I just hand them the page and they don’t have to hunt for anything, all the info is right there. Perfect board game for beginners or when you just don’t feel like a 3 hour scythe campaign.

it’s a blessing and a curse. Achievement hunting can be really fun, but oftentimes they’re not well implemented and it ends up sucking. Unfortunately, my completionist impulse is way too strong, so I must slog through it either way.

here’s some games I’ve 100% completed, that’s probably the most interesting single folder on my pc!

A popular genre in Japanese media is the Isekai or “another world” genre, in which the main character is brought from our world to a different one. There are many mechanisms by which this happens such as portals or summoning magic, but the most common method by far is reincarnation after death.

Because it’s more interesting if the death is sudden and the main character is unprepared, the death is usually in some sort of accident. The most commonly used accident is a car accident, usually with a truck like the one seen in the post here.

Therefore it’s become a meme among people who consume Isekai stories that “Truck-kun” will send you to the afterlife.

Big fan of Vintage Story. It’s a voxel survival game like Minecraft but with a much heavier focus on realism and depth. There’s a much more satisfying sense of progression compared to Minecraft and the slower paced gameplay makes it feel extremely cozy despite the higher difficulty and complexity. Plus it’s got a very active modding community too!

I know it’s not quite a community builder, but it’s definitely a game for watching your world grow and evolve over significant periods of time!

Monster Hunter.

There’s a community saying: everyone loves Monster Hunter, they just haven’t played it enough yet. It’s an incredibly common experience for new Monhun players to hate it on their first or even second go around, but then eventually fall in love! It happened for me twice in fact. I played Tri on the Wii back when I was a kid, and then World on release in college, but did not get far either time. Then I tried it again a few years later and now I have played at least one monster hunter game from every generation as well as most of the spinoffs and it is my favourite series ever!
