“A disturbingly, disproportionately high number of those who work forces” just doesn’t roll off the tongue. Then again, I wouldn’t have thought that “All research and successful drug policy shows that treatment should be increased (Oh) and law enforcement decreased while abolishing mandatory minimum sentences” would make banging lyrics, but boy was I wrong.
I’m thinking of the hot dogs. While being chewed, swallowed, and digested seems like a horrible end, it can’t really be much worse than their conception was to begin with. Such is the life of a hot dog.
I think an often overlooked part of the MAGA demographic is that it’s comprised of two large groups: often rural, working class, conservative voters who vote on emotional or single issue areas like abortion, 2nd amendment, or military support and wealthy upper class business owners who benefit from reduced economic and environmental regulation. It seems Republicans in power always seem to pass legislation that benefits the later while screwing over the former, and yet they keep voting for Republicans anyway.
I teach English in highschool and assign every assignment that does not require lengthy writing to be done on paper. Granted most of my reasoning centers around increasing the time that students brains are activated while handwriting vs typing, reducing technological distractions, creating physical artifacts for future reference, and safeguarding academic dishonesty. Students struggle and clearly do not have much writing stamina, which is especially problematic for AP classes that require multiple times, hand written essays on the AP Exam.
100% agree and it cleans up easier than regular syrupy soda.
What a wonderful read.
I fall asleep basically every night to a video essay on YouTube. Special thanks to Fern, Lemmino, and Tilted.
I’ve had similar thoughts. Maybe not a rotation, but a compulsory period of service following high school that where people can select from a variety of public service assignments.
I’m envious. I shoveled four times yesterday during the storm so I didn’t have to take all twelve inches at once.
Beee kaaay have it your way.
I once got a fishing hook in the back of my calf. Since the hook was barbed we did not try pulling it back out, so my dad pushed it the rest of the way through then cut the end off. I’m not exactly signing up to do it again, but all things considered it wasn’t too bad.
I used to get high Tetris scores on my Ti-83. I was also the geeky kid that learned to download games for the calculator and knew how to transfer them, so my high scores soon began to populate the school. For the next few years, I’d meet recently graduated underclassmen at my university and they’d be like “You’re the guy with the Tetris scores on my calculator!” To this day it may be my biggest claim to fame.
I haven’t really listened to Orville Peck much. I heard about him a few years ago, but I recall getting too much Roy Orbison vibes for my taste. I really respect his commitment to the style though. I’m going to put him on today and give it another go.
It seems you’re liking a lot of songs that are fusions of modern pop and country music. I don’t have anything else to recommend in this vein, but this year I’ve gotten into some country fusion groups that blend genres you wouldn’t expect. You might check these out:
Charley Crockett - Country underpinned by blues, jazz, and funk. I highly recommend the album In The Night.
Rattlesnake Milk - country music meets surf rock.
Paul Cauthen - country music meets gospel, funk, and at times electronic. I’ve really enjoyed his recent album Black on Black and I’d recommend the title track or “Hot Damn” but don’t miss out on older songs like “Cocaine Country Dancing” and “Holy Ghost Fire”
A while back I stumbled upon a YouTube channel called Desert Drifter. He hikes through the desert and showcases ancient cliff dwellings and other structures. It’s oddly captivating.
Assuming the error is with accidentally writing defiantly in lieu of definitely, I used to tell myself “There is definitely not an a in definitely.”
Good on him for taking a hike. The first photo trips me up. Was the hike to the middle of a highway? Is there a placard or historical marker there in the middle of the highway?
Not even receiving votes after 3 ranked wins in a row.
I mean sure both parties are going to serve the Almighty shareholder by finding reasons to avoid wealth taxes, upholding capitalism where the strongest survive (except for corporations that lobby well and need bailed out of course), and using their positions in the government to personally profit. But at least one party is going to recognize that trans people are humans, make an effort to oversee environmental or workers rights, or even admit that human beings deserve to eat in the process.
