Another really simple way to do essentially the same is to set the bios in your machine to support boot from a USB stick (and in some machines, that involves disabling the ‘secure boot’ setting that prevents any OS but the OEM OS from loading on the machine). Once you’ve got that, you can run any distro if you’ve got it on a USB stick by booting your machine from it.

I just got Mint working on one of my machines yesterday, the process was remarkably painless
Have you ever spent any time in or close to a large wind farm? Honestly, it’s relaxing if you haven’t been told to be mad about them existing- they’re quiet, sustainable, and once they’re built the cost of each new unit of energy they deliver doesn’t come with the unit cost and environmental cost of acquiring and burning yet more fuel-- so in that sense, the marginal cost of each new bit of power from them really does approach zero.
Of course, this (that the resulting energy is so cheap) is why the coal/oil/gas folks are mad- they know they won’t be able to compete once a grid with sufficient edge-caching/power storage is built out

LOL are these the same people that have turned their churches into campaign organs for their party?

It’s like the VA of grocery stores, or like the Medicare of health insurance, or the public schools of education, or the taxpayer-funded firefighters or judiciary or police or highways or ports or bridges or hydropower dams or the forest service or national parks or public health and science and technology research or NASA
LOL at the idea that we don’t do this sort of thing all over the place

Thats not a warning intended to keep the public safe, it’s a threat intended to get the public to give up on democracy

It probably is time for that, sad to say

I think he’s trying to substitute populism for health science, which is irresponsible and awful and will kill people. That he’s using eugenicist language in the process, and eliminating vaccines because ‘big pharma corruption’ while not meaningfully checking big pharma power or abuses smells like a plan to watch the children of vulnerable populations die. The rest of it- making noise about redesigning the food pyramid- is just smoke. The ‘new’ recommendations are just a rebranding of previous recommendations to pretend like they’re doing something about how our food systems are shitty because mostly FDA spends food money to subsidize the ag industry and processed subsidized product is profitable in ways that healthy food often isn’t

On the one hand, I really really want it to be a world-changing breakthrough for real this time. I’ve been losing my dad to Alzheimer’s for several years now and even if it’s too late for him I would just hope that nobody else has to go through that in the future. On the other hand, knowing that it’s someone’s business model to jerk at my hope and heart-strings for ad engagement has me more or less ready to fire futurism into the fucking sun

Because ICE has federal authority, anything local authority does will create a conflict that ICE and Trump will use to justify martial law.
In other words, the states shouldn’t exercise their own authority or else the feds will keep escalating the things they’re already doing? At this point I don’t see any reason to believe that Trump won’t declare martial law regardless of what Minnesota does. The question isn’t whether or not he will escalate, it’s whether or not there will be resistance.

At this point I think it’s pretty safe to conclude that when the right-wing 2A guys argue that 2A is inviolable/shall not be infringed, they mean it only in the context of service to right-wing politics, not that it’s a right that applies to anyone else. In other words, they support the notion of privilege, not rights.

Well, yeah. The feds can’t block state criminal charges, so obvs they need to obstruct state investigation of crimes committed by feds

It’s maddening to see the predictable full-throated lying about how she was a terrorist coming from the administration and its enabling news networks, knowing that their intended audience will nod and say ‘seems legit’

Anybody even the littlest bit surprised that he would say this sort of thing hasn’t been paying attention. Not a stunner at all.

To be clear, he essentially claimed that the US has the capability to forcibly do that- which isn’t so much an assertion that the US has any right to do a thing, it is that laws and rights are meaningless in his view. He’s framing a potential invasion or coup not supported by law or rights as if it’s legitimized by either, while fundamentally subverting the notion that anyone but the powerful have rights the US is bound to respect.

Have to admit its a smart play from the orks
Rhetorically it’s clever, sure, but effectively it amounts to demanding unconditional surrender or else they’ll continue to lose until demands are met

I’m old enough to remember when the term ‘homeland security’ was too fashy-sounding to be taken seriously. We were fine without ICE, and weirdly enough, creating it hasn’t solved anything- if anything, the lies they tell to justify doing it more and harder have gotten more and more absurd.

Probably capsaicin
He doesn’t have the power to abolish 2a, he just has the ability to tell his DOJ to not investigate matters when his administration’s agents violate it. This constitutes a massive abuse of executive power, fostering a culture of impunity and abuse but we all should understand that if and when executive and legislative power fall out of the hands of this admin, these sorts of crime have very long statutes of limitations and accountability (if belated) is entirely in the cards
