16·7 days agoI do some volunteer work in a non-profit that operates globally. We hold an annual team meetup in changing locations. In the past few years we did Canada and several European cities. For a while now, the plan had been to hold 2025’s meetup in the US as we have several team members from there. But as it stands, we’ll choose a different location because too many team members have said they’re not comfortable travelling to the US under the current administration.
We’re talking some 20-30 people not travelling to the US and spending money there. Obviously a small number but as you said, it adds up.
Fun fact, that word is etymologically related to “placenta”.
22·8 days agoIt’s really fascinating the way the US has alienated most of its allies in such a short time frame. I can’t think of a single example of something like this happening in history.

In any case, assuming Black loses the pawn, how do you force the king away from g8 if Black’s rook stays on the 8th rank?

Though I’m not sure it is possible to do a check-mate with just your king, a rook and a bishop.
It’s possible to checkmate with K + R only, so that would be a yes.

Müssen sie auch unbedingt. Die Grünen haben hier wirklich fast unbegrenzte Verhandlungsmacht. Denn wenn es mit ihnen nicht klappt, ist Merz auf die Linke angewiesen, und da wird es mindestens gleich schwierig, wenn nicht schwieriger (zumal die Linke von der Union noch deutlich weiter entfernt ist und ideologisch strenger ist als die Grünen). Die AfD wird unter Garantie nicht mit Schwarz-Rot stimmen, denn sie würde am meisten davon profitieren, wenn Merz’ Regierung scheitert.
Als jemand, der in Berlin lebt, wundert mich bei der SPD einfach gar nichts mehr.
