BzzBiotch@lemmy.worldto Hardware@lemmy.world•Quantum mechanics might have the solution to joystick driftEnglish9·3 months agoAs a repair company we use these on the daily. Small error in the article: it’s not true that due to potential power demand, hall-effect sticks can’t be used one-on-one in current controllers.
They absolutely can and we use them all the time in that application. Tmr is slightly more sensitive and thusly more accurate but that effect is hardly noticeable. Not in any meaningful way to prioritize tmr over hall, anyway.
We do use Tmr more in controllers where the trigger sensor also has hall-effect. Less interference that way.
So they both solve different problems for us and are therefore used in different scenarios.

Game theory does not apply to relationships, my friend. A healthy relationship requires hard work from both parties involved, so that you can be stronger and happier together that you would be alone. I hope you find that love in your life and when that day comes, that you are ready for it.
BzzBiotch@lemmy.worldto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•What has made you sad/depressed this week?English5·11 months agoWe’re on holiday in Thailand and we visited the old king’s summer palace. Our guide told us a super sad story:
Apparently there was an accident long ago involving the queen and her baby daughter when the boat they were on, sank on the palace lake.
Even though there were lots of people around who were able to help, no-one could save them because nobody was allowed to touch the royals.
The queen and baby daughter drowned with everybody watching powerlessly.
Heartbreaking stuff man. Needed a moment to process that…

BzzBiotch@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My laptop hinge just ripped its screws right out.English90·1 year agoLaptop repair guy here! This problem is common in consumer grade laptops. As far as I am concerned, it’s purposefully weakly designed, because these break a LOT.
Not the hinge is broken, but the mounting points for the screws that keep the hinge in place. Sometimes it breaks on the bottom case, sometimes it breaks on the screen side.
We fix these issues regularly with epoxy (and massive skillz, lol). With most hinges, you can adjust the force a little lighter to relieve the pressure on the mounting points. That way it doesn’t fail again, after repair.
