  • Someone doesn’t have to be doing things as bad as the transphobes to still be doing something that isn’t ideal, or something that makes other people uncomfortable in a way that has nothing to do with transphobia. It feels bad for anyone to get told they’re doing gender wrong, even if the person doing it is trying to be helpful.

It doesn’t mean anyone doing that is evil, it just means gender is a messy thing to talk about and understand. People can’t always see that what is very affirming and clarifying for them may be constraining for someone else.

  • Definitely, it’s almost always either someone that’s not quite ready to come out or trans people talking about their pre-transition selves. There is a small minority of people who are very insistent on calling other people eggs and seem to think they’re helping, but really are contributing to an environment with more rigid gender roles.

It’s unfortunate because a lot of the time I think what they’re really wanting to do is talk about their own experiences and how things clicked together for them, but are way overgeneralizing about it and projecting it onto other people.

  • I agree with the comment saying that 130lbs doesn’t sound overweight, unless you’re 5’0 or under. Does your belly look obviously big to you in photos, or has anyone else ever mentioned it? Your perspective when you look down at your belly will make it look larger to you, so it might only be you that sees your belly as too big.

Keep in mind as well that in any photos of men you see who are body building, they have often dehydrated themselves to make their muscles stand out more. If you’re properly hydrated you’re never going to look like that, even if you exercise every day.

But strengthening your core muscles is really good for your back, so it’s probably not a bad idea to do sit ups and push ups.

  • This is a painting from 1872 called American Progress. The giant woman in a toga is Columbia (note: not Colombia, the country), the popular personification of the United States at the time. She is bringing “civilization” to the west, book in hand, laying telegraph poles as she goes with settlers following behind her. Which also just happens to involve genociding Native Americans and buffalo, seen fleeing in the painting. It was a painting made to embody the idea of American expansionism and manifest destiny. If you’re ever in LA and have the opportunity to swing by the Autry Museum, it’s there and worth checking out (if only to see how surprisingly small it is).

It looks like JD Vance’s face has been pasted on Columbia, I’m assuming because of the Panama and Greenland stuff.

It’s actually Destiny (the YouTube streamer), oops!
