badposting@hexbear.net•Just found a youtuber who reads like 10 books a month. wtf
10·4 days agoI never understood counting books this way. It would make sense if all books took the same time and effort. But you can read 30 modern novels in the same time and effort that would cost you in reading perhaps 1 book by, say, Hegel or Kant. I’m not saying that the easiest reads are useless or bad but they are different. Even in novels some are easy to get through and I might read one in 3 days or so, while some can take me a month to parse. Unless you are speaking of a specific kind of books requiring roughly the same effort, the measuring of number of books doesn’t convey much information.
Actual praxis

1·5 days agoDid you just assume I’m American ? But joke aside the ICE equivalent in developing countries is trying to keep everyone in, kind of a reverse-ICE if you will (I know that’s actually not true because the policing on both sides serves the same function but still)

2·10 days agoHe didn’t blame Arab racism on “woke”, he overstates the case that sometimes what is commonly known as “woke” ideologies are used for imperial ends. He gave examples of making a black African woman pronounce the verdicts on African leaders to make it appear less racist and more neutral. Many people also use feminism to basically imply that people of Iran deserve to be bombed, etc. The disagreement between him and Hasan is that Hasan believes these are cynical weaponization of feminism or identity politics or whatever you wanna call it. He also makes the point that allegations ofremoved were used to justify genocide and sees this as an extension of “believe all victims”. I think this is still a cynical deployment but his argument is not as dumb as you make it seem.

news@hexbear.net•Trump sends a letter Today to Morocco’s king to confirm that US joins Israel in recognizing Morocco's control over Western SaharaEnglish
6·10 days agoYea it’s sad. The overwhelming popular sentiment in Morocco is against the normalization with Israel, but there’s no way for that idea to be expressed politically. We have elections now and barely anyone actually votes. In Morocco the better educated you are, the less likely you actually vote. The King has the ability to unilaterally set foreign and domestic policy, and no one in the political parties can say anything to contradict him. There were recent protests but they were crushed and people arrested without trials. There were pro-palestenian protests in Tangier last week that were also crushed. It’s gotten so bad recently, with journalists, activists and even musicians arrested. They just intimidated a Rapper for being pro-protests, was held for weeks and only recently released, pending possible charges. There are some communist pages and groups that try to mobilize but the state uses terror and arrests to intimidate anyone involved. There is a call for protests again tomorrow after 10 months of silence. Many of the protesters are still in prison.
Moroccan rapper Mehdi El Youbi temporarily released from prison
