Omg that Gorn fight cracks me up every time - it’s like they forgot to speed up the tape in post-production https://youtu.be/4SK0cUNMnMM
I recently purchased an old Toyota from 2009, which had the TOTL audio system including an MP3 compatible cd player and Bluetooth (voice/phone-only). I ended up using the cd tray as a slot for a phone holder, and use a Bluetooth LDAC dongle connected to the AUX input. But I’m gonna burn an old school MP3 cd and leave it in the glove box for a rainy day :)
Burning cd’s for ripped movies/pirated games was mostly obsoleted by super cheap & huge hard drives, in combination with piracy mainly transitioning to downloads over the internet idue to increased bandwidth and removed caps (instead of physical sharing of medi). Price per byte for HDD storage decreased 1000x between 1995-2008. https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/historical-cost-of-computer-memory-and-storage?time=1995..latest
Burning for cd audio/MP3 was obsoleted in favor of MP3 players/ipod and later the smartphone.
Funny anecdote; my friend’s mother referred to the cd burner as “the cd crusher” in the late 90’s, I guess it’s easy to mix up the terms if one is oblivious to the fact that the information is burned into the disc by a laser.

13·2 年前You certainly can, with proper carbon emissions taxation. But you can’t stop said people from voting for parties that advocate unrealistic pipe-dream technological solutions like poop jets and full-scale CCS, rather than parties who make them take the red pill and face reality and the consequences of their actions.

1·2 年前Ok it sounds like what you experienced was caused by something completely different than detecting an audible difference between Spotify’s 320 kbps AAC encoding and lossless encoding, encoded over a 256 kbps AAC BT codec, but if you actually want to do a true A/B blind test of 320 kbps vs. lossless on your setup, here’s the place to do it:

Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.@slrpnk.net•Two former Department of Energy staffers warn we’re doing carbon removal all wrong6·2 年前It’s ironic to watch the self-delusions unfold in countries that have working multi-party voting systems, and a dedicated green party. In self-interest/status quo preservation, voters avoid them like the plague because “they are too extreme”, and rather vote for some other party that puts up a fake eco-friendly front based on some technological pipe dream & shoveling off responsibilities to other countries.
Previous election in Norway (late 2021), the green party were the only ones who went to election with a pledge to stop search&test drilling for new oil fields (extraction from the currently running & newly prospected oil fields will run well into the 2050’s)- they got below 4% of the votes, and no other party wanted to include them in negotiations for forming a government, because they were “too extreme”.
Today, the foreign minister of the government lead the Dubai climate negotiations and pretended to be disappointed that other countries blocked the term “end our dependency on fossil fuel”, and that they had to compromise for something vaguer like “start the transition away from fossil fuel” or something like that…
It’s common for the people who vote these stooges into office to say stuff like “the politicians aren’t doing enough to combat the climate crisis”. The hypocrisy lies thick in the air.
