Thanks for the context. I figured I must be missing something since performance increases like this for proton would be huge news and likely not possible.

Anyone have more context on this? These are some pretty massive increases if the games in the table are in any way representative of all games.
It would be cool if they would provide some useful statistics about the aggregated data as well. Maybe something like showing the percentile for pay to the ED/CEO or for the total compensation compared to other organizations in the sector.
I didn’t scour the site so maybe this does exist.
By having China create a more efficient and capable government and open source it so you can run it locally?
I heard that several major unions had been planning to align their contract expiration dates like this but has there been any serious talk about this leading to a general strike?
The US government’s position on this can be summed up as “massive unaccountable US tech firms having all of your data and manipulating public opinion via their black box algorithms is okay, but Chinese companies doing that is a national security concern”. I call BS. The degree to which China is actually a US adversary is being massively overstated by the US government as they see this as a threat to US geopolitical hegemony and America’s ability to propagandize its own citizens. I have spent some time on RedNote (Xiaohongshu) and all I have seen is friendly cross-cultural exchange and discussion between these supposed ‘adversaries’.
Seeing stuff like this in the uplifting news community instead of shit like ‘local kid spends 60 hours a week selling lemonade to pay for sister’s cancer treatments’ is why I appreciate Lemmy vs Reddit.
I do care about tire wear but where I live the daily temperature regularly fluctuates by 25+ degrees which means the alert goes off almost all of the time because at least one tire is a degree different or too low at least a couple times a day. I’d have to fill my tires daily to avoid it to be honest. That seems a bit excessive to me.
First time I’ve seen y’all refer to each other as Beeple and I’m just dropping in here to say I love the term.
My 2023 Toyota beeps and shows a warning every time I start the car if one of the tires is even 1 PSI lower than the others. It’s ridiculous.
Is there a vaccine?
True; I think I used LineageOS or similar back when I was still in Android but if you’re not in the 0.01% who do have a custom Android OS installed it seems like a privacy focused map app is still of limited use potentially.
This looks like it has come a long way, but since this is a privacy community I have to ask: Realistically, whether you are on iOS or Android, isn’t it likely Google or Apple are still tracking your location much of the time directly from the OS?
Okay, can I hijack this thread to ask the question from some fellow coffee enthusiasts: Do decaf beans actually tend to suck? I would be interested in a decaf or half-caff blend but curious what the connoisseurs think… and sorry no I haven’t searched for a post on this in the community so feel free to downvote the crap out of me / take mercy on me and link one of it exists…
Based on the differences in color for each handle it makes me wonder if the one for not washing your hands is a different material. Maybe an antimicrobial metal like a copper alloy.

Honestly I found it pretty enjoyable. The story isn’t much to write home about but the parkour movement and just traversing the open world and bashing zombies is a great gameplay loop and it’s pretty fun. Missions and objectives are varied enough to be consistently fun and exploration is enjoyable. I recommend it.
I believe alternative methods of validating blocks (series of transactions) such as Proof-of-stake, instead of the vastly more computation and energy-intensive proof-of-work that Bitcoin uses would largely address the issue of computational expense. There are other methods of increasing efficiency and speed of processing as well such as the use of more efficient ‘layer 2’ mechanisms for processing blocks. I remember reading about these and their implementation when I was researching cryptocurrencies out of curiosity. I believe Ethereum and some others have largely implemented these. The decentralized applications aspect of Eth was super interesting to me as well. Basically, you can program software to run on the blockchain which can make it nearly impossible to shut down by a centralized authority so long as the network is sufficiently decentralized. Some of the programmable money (so-called decentralized finance or ‘DeFi’) apps are pretty interesting as well in terms of enabling more people to utilize the more complex financial instruments that Wall Street firms have been using for years. Of course, a lot of that has turned into a Wild West of scams and ‘rug pulls’, not to mention massive targets for hackers who try to exploit vulnerabilities to steal millions so buyer beware for sure.
Thanks! I just sent you a tip as a thank you! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the info. I don’t know a ton about them but I’m honestly massively impressed at the talent of the Proton devs. The fact that they have made most games run as well and some games run better on Unix operating systems through a translation layer than on Windows (the OS they were designed for) is ridiculously impressive. And this just shows they aren’t resting on their laurels but are being proactive in preventing issues before they happen which is immensely commendable and impressive.
