Well yes, except when Amazon is using them to save on costs, that’s just robbing taxpayers.

Futurology@futurology.today•As the US sabotages the globe's fossil fuel infrastructure, in China BYD's latest Blade batteries charge from 10–97% in nine minutes, and have a range of 1,000 km (640 miles).English
14·3 months agoI would not be surprised if BYD is the industry leader and has the best battery technology, I just also wouldn’t be surprised if they are doing a showcase of the potential of the batteries if they sacrificed longevity. It is a claim by a company and isn’t verified by independent consumers.
Battery technology especially has a long history of performance with big astricks, so it’s good to be skeptical, even with industry leaders.
You’re misrepresenting the problem though, it’s not about maximising efficiency of an area, but packing the targeted amount of squares inside the smallest square, who’s side lengths are some multiple of the packed squares.
If you posted this under OP then I would agree with you, obviously this is bad efficiency for the waffle for the purposes of syrup filled in holes, but for the definitions of the problem the person you replied to is correct in their explanation.
I like it being extensible instead, as some adblocks might be opinionated or unresponsive. It’s easier to swap adblocks then browsers.

News@lemmy.world•Mamdani takes sardonic view of Polymarket’s ‘free grocery store’ stunt in New YorkEnglish
1·4 months agoThat makes sense, but it does mean the private grocery stores won’t lower their prices in response. So unfortunately it won’t have as good of an effect as affordable housing can have, but still a positive one where these are created.

News@lemmy.world•Mamdani takes sardonic view of Polymarket’s ‘free grocery store’ stunt in New YorkEnglish
12·4 months agoGrocery stores don’t have a lot of margins, so this move won’t reduce prices by much or at all. What it will do is improve low income areas the “market” has left alone to improve the availability and quality of nearby food. I’ve heard a lot of people skeptical of the “lower prices” part, when I think the food desert part is a much more important part of the plan tbh.

4·4 months agoGood news, that’s not how the CSAM database works. What happens is the image is hashed (for non technical people, hashing is a way of always generating the same “ID” from the file data) and the image is discarded. Now the article I found to verify my claim also talks about how the FBI used to distribute CSAM to catch people, so they have some probably… But not a database wide amount.
