  • No, I disagree. If things are really fucked (as they are) 30% of a population is more than enough to enact change. If they are really motivated to do so. Get most of those 30% only the street and you see what power it has.

Of course with 80/90% it’s easier. Much much easier but that’s just fantasy land. You can get 90% of the population to agree on many basic facts, so you can forget about having then agree to protest together.

Plenty of revolutions were made, and dictatorships overturned with much fewer people on board.

I very much disagree on how much power 30% of the population has. Yes the electoral system you have in the USA is beyond stupid. However voting is only the easiest and most polite way to make change.

Go on strike, protest, build some guillotines. If the population really wants it, change will be made, even if it’s only 15/30%. Because the remainder of that population will not opposite necessarily. They just don’t care enough to protest.

Luigi Mangione is just 1 person for example.

  • even my grandma was aware that there was a lunatic in the White House who encouraged domestic terrorism and we live across the Atlantic and she doesn’t even speak English

This isn’t on the level of which economic policy is the best for long term sustainable growth. This is just recognizing that Trump is an incompetent piece of shit that will admit to scamming whoever he can (and admit it) and literally anyone else and that if Trump won the US is fucked

  • I mean no

In an election between Bush and Kerry (the guy who lost 2004 election) or something like that then yes. People can be annoyed or just too busy to vote.

This election was perfectly clear that the future of US democracy was at stake and more than 1/3 of the voters decided to not show up. They decided that they were fine not choosing and as such fine with either option. I mean even if the choice was between Trump and a dog, the dog should have won by a landslide. 4 years of nothing would have been miles better than the decades that US is going back.

This presidency is already catastrophic and it barely even started.

I don’t even know how the US and the world can handle 4 years of this shit at this pace.

  • The worst thing about the API changes wasn’t even that most people didn’t care or weren’t on board. It was that they were actively against the people protesting. In real life when this happens I always give some leeway because everyone has their own problems and they might be a bit annoyed by the protest action (which is part of the protest). But on Reddit?? People lost their fucking minds because they couldn’t have access to some subreddits for like 24h.

Sooooo many people failed to realize that even if you didn’t use third party apps that it would still affect you even if indirectly. They didn’t even have to do anything other than literally do nothing/something other that browsing reddit for a day. And they couldn’t. They vilified and downvoted the protesters and took the side of the billionaire trying to take advantage of everyone ruining Reddit in the process

That fiasco in pretty meaningless in todays world events, but fuck, I still find it a great insight into how much we can suck as a species
