The diehard actual gusanos are pretty psychotic, but the average Burger generally agrees with the sentiment if not the extreme fervor. The propaganda against Cuba has run deep for many decades and seemingly will continue for many more. Biden’s pathetic coward-ass waiting until his last days to partially lift the illegal embargo… there’s just not words to describe the depravity of such a person. His family left Cuba during Batista’s dictatorship. The gusanos, to my understanding anyway, are those who fled when Castro and the revolution defeated Batista. They didn’t wanna give up their ill gotten wealth and assets, so they packed what they could and fled to Miami and elsewhere. Unfortunately for them the “go to the pub, have a pint” strategy didn’t really work out. Nor did the whole “Ok, we’ll just invade then!” strategy work. Or the “cut off the serpent’s head!” strategy. At the end of the day, as long as there are workers and owners (investors, CEO, etc.), and the company takes profits which they have not labored for, then it doesn’t matter. Even if a cashier is getting paid $100K with paid sick time, a “great” health insurance package, 6 weeks vacation a year, whatever else people demand at white collar jobs (but you never see at something necessary… like stocking shelves…) it doesn’t matter. If the company agreed to pay $100K that just means the worker earns them that + much more in value they’re creating.

This is just a fundamental fact that Americans, in particular, seem incapable of internalizing. Only workers create value. Owners aren’t workers (well, sometimes, but that’s a different discussion). That includes the CEO under owner. So any salary or compensation the owners receive is stolen from the workers. In addition, whatever salary a corporation agrees to pay will always be lower than the value the worker creates. (That’s just a “hard law” of how this works.) So no matter how relatively “great” the pay is, some hidden portion is being stolen.

(None of this is really directed at you. Just the type of person (specifically those in US) who will unironically “scold” Costco workers because “others have it worse.” Just gross lack of any solidarity, pure individualism, and precisely why nothing ever gets better. Part of the reason anyway.)

I understand and agree that amphetamines aren’t something we just kinda like want floating around as a society. But if someone has been stably taking the same dosage of the same drug for years… this is the type of shit people hear about or experience and slowly radicalizes them towards “Just tear that shit down” because it never seems to get changed otherwise. (And yes I realize that racists and generally anti-drug (medically or recreationally) freaks are why this shit is fucked. Doesn’t change that it is fucked. And by freaks I mean “Gawd did naht intend for man to use these!” types. You know them. There’s a lot working for the DEA… also, Mormons. Bit of a circle Venn diagram there between Mormons and the weird anti-drug sentiment)

I remember one time I wrecked my bike as a young teen (flipped over the handle bars because I was being super cool riding with no hands and the front tire hit something and spun like 90 degrees). I went back home and used like a whole bottle on my shoulder and knee areas that had been scraped pretty badly by asphalt. Pretty sure it’s not meant to cover large surface areas like that. The pain was intense. It did form a gross rubber-skin layer though, so I guess it works?

I would be interested less in who did it (because no matter what the president signs, if people think the CIA won’t still hide shit, well… share the magical drugs with me!) and more if we can get like concrete, recorded official reasons why JFK was shot.

A lot of the assumptions about their involvement hinge on known resentments between the Kennedy bros and the intelligence agencies. There’s “the whole Bay of Pigs thing” (Nixon quote) which obviously drove a huge wedge between them. Plus JFK was circumventing normal communication lines during the missile crisis to speak with the USSR. Basically says to all his little generals and directors and such like “I don’t trust you psychos. I’ll just handle this personally in the background.”

Anyway, not trying to paint JFK as like a “peaceful” guy. He wasn’t. He spent his career consistently running as a democrat on a platform of “I hate commies more than republicans!” (Like Nixon) There seems to be some evidence he changed at least partially right before getting his head blown off. He was more open to talks with Castro anyway. Then blammo.

If the CIA does admit it finally, I’d like to know when the decision was made and reasons why. But obviously this is a pipedream. They ain’t releasing that even if it ever existed. And all the accomplices have been dead for a decade or longer at this point.

Unfortunately the benefit the right wing has is the more people consume slop and get pissed at manufactured controversies they create, the more it just swirls in a vortex of “shit” for everyone else. Notice that approximately zero American conservatives who aren’t capitalists (so “working class” non-business owners) seem to give a flying shit now days about anything that isn’t a “culture war” talking point. Or a derivative of one. There’s no like “serious” discussion on how to solve inflation or their wages becoming more and more dogshit over time. “Trump said tariffs will fix it! Yep! That’ll fix it. And he said we’re deporting the “illegals!” And making being trans illegal! Hell yeah!”

They’ve managed to just create this stew of shit where they create a “controversy” based on, I dunno, some sort of perceived “degeneration” of invented societal norms from the past, say “Yeah, we’re banning that. Also, taxes. Those are bad. When has the government helped you anyway? Also, the government is full of trans people. They want to tax you. Ban it all, right?”

It doesn’t matter because these people just want a distraction and someone to blame. The right wing slop bucket has endless opportunities to feed them “enemies.” Then their leaders, Trump, or whoever (he’s not unique. Maybe especially skilled at selling the bullshit though) come and say “I agree with you, long time listeners of SlopCast!” He feeds them the sloppiest slop, fucks something they probably rely on without knowing it (or will one day), and they’re just left smiling and giggling covered in shit. Like little hoglets.

The democrats have basically defined themselves as “We are the half measure party to republican full measures!” Aka, losers if you’re in the slop realm. Losers if you’re on the left. The only people who like the dems are those adjacent to slop world, suburban moms basically, who consume it but don’t like how it tastes. “Let’s kill… only half the immigrants?” is the conclusion they reach.

It’s rather unfortunate that “left wing” slop basically just distracts, for the most part. While right wing slop is actually required for their entire operation. The left relies on people organizing en masse and having leaders from within the working class that represent their fellow workers and are educated on class struggle. Podcasts probably aren’t pushing much there. The right relies on the spread of bullshit. 100 loud mouths spouting the dumbest shit you can imagine at people who sort of know everything is getting shittier and shittier and really want an enemy to blame… that’s ripe for the right wing to pluck. The left could, in theory, capitalize on the opportunity, and I think to an extent some are doing so currently. The question has long been floating in the ether though “What are the limits of radicalization via podcast/online content consumption generally?” So far, it seems to be extremely limited in reach. The people who consume the content often already agree with the host. It also sort of instills a feeling of “having done something” when you listen to someone else break down a situation. You feel like you addressed it. The anger starts to dissipate. That anger is essential to getting people to do stuff though. Something the right understands and exploits constantly.

Anyway, none of this is really unique. Just sort of observing stuff others have as well.

It’s an entertainment podcast

People should listen to audiobooks or perhaps college level, organized discussions (David Harvey has lectures and short Q&A about Capital going chapter by chapter, for example) if they want theory (in an audio format)

But that said, I do sort of agree that they should try harder to at least get people to seek out theory by giving more tastes of it dispersed throughout the podcast. Hakim usually is the best at it. He talks about something then says “Read Whatever by Whoever for more.” It just seems like between his “real job” and sort of realizing what people (their audience) want isn’t to be told to read books… yeah, he’s like “fuck it. Just subscribe, I guess.”

The sad fact is if you had a heavy, heavy theory oriented podcast. Like it’s basically just a review and highlighting of main points from a book, chapter by chapter. Very few people are going to listen to it. Some will, for sure. But let’s be realistic. I think all you can really do is what Hakim used to do more of which is shoutout books for people to go read. If it piqued someone’s interest they will go read. Of course the bottleneck or whatever here is the host(s) have to be incredibly well-read themselves. Hakim can rattle off a billion books because he’s clearly a theory nerd and has read, perhaps, too many books. That already places him in like the 0.01% of podcasters by education level (self or otherwise).

I guess what I’m getting at here is the same cliche. “Podcasts are slop content. Don’t expect anything. The best they can do is shame listeners into reading maybe one book.”

They also defended Elon ~a year ago when he agreed with a Nazi on Twitter who said basically “Jews are doing the great replacement of whites in the US.” The ADL made him take a trip to concentration camps and then to Israel after which all was forgiven. As long as he’s pro-Israel, that’s all they ask!

The ADL has a long history of being pro-apartheid back to South African apartheid days. It seems the leaders then understood what Israel was/is and that the anti-apartheid movement would come for Israel one day.

But yes, especially since Oct 2023 Jonathon Greenblatt, who seems to be a legitimately very dumb person, has been just outright saying constantly and loudly everywhere: “Criticism of Israel is antisemitic.” There’s no longer any veil for them to hide behind. He couldn’t keep his trap shut just a few times. He had to just blare the agenda out loudly every chance he had.

I’m pretty sure it’s so bad for them now that even liberals who aren’t inside the little fascist media bubble around Washington know to take nothing from the ADL seriously without checking the precise claims, with evidence, first. Even Wikipedia has stopped allowing them to edit pages because they’re considered so untrustworthy. When you’ve lost Wikipedia editors… goddamn…

I do find it funny how a man can spread literal neo Nazi conspiracies regarding “great replacement” (of the white population) for years and emphatically insist that it is happening. And liberals are all like “I dunno, man… does that make him a Nazi though??”

Best I can figure is Burgers, generally, are so racist that we hear that fucking replacement shit from so many people, so often, that it’s not even thought of as a white supremacist-ass talking point. Many people just internalize it as “true.” (Like Elon clearly has).
