What’s the difference between limited interest and consent? The latter is unticked by default.

Sorry, I don’t understand. On kukuklok.com , press Manage Settings and then Save Settings. Avoid the Recommended button. Job done?
No but most of mine are so…

1·3 days agoTake their money, abandon their tech. I’ve been boycotting Amazon for years and I don’t see a problem.
A lot of sites make it look difficult but you can often opt out of their ad and tracking cookies in 2 clicks. Usually there’s a “Save my choices” button that defaults to doing just this.
It’s not in their interest to make it clear.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there any open source ATM machine ?
1·4 days agoIt’s not the regulations, it’s the banks. They’re super paranoid, everything has to be proprietary. And at the same time their backends are all ancient and seriously decrepit. Which has to be kept secret and airgapped from the public.

1·5 days agoI meant more: Why do you expect your local gas station to have a charger? What use is it? You need chargers 200 miles from home at rest areas with decent coffee, not near your home.

51·5 days agoThe used car market comes a bit later after new car sales gets going. It’s taken off here in the UK now, we can buy lots of EVs second hand. I never buy new cars.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People born in the 1900s, what was life like back then?
8·5 days agoI was born in the late 70s so I can comment on the 80s onwards.
It was ok. It’s better now though. Some stuff got worse. A lot got better. We know more, have better toys, live longer, cheaper travel and so on.
The major thing that’s worse is the internet blasting every negative thing into your brain 24/7
It’s up to employers who they employ. It’s not for you or I to decide what job or what person are suitable.
But if your skilled enployees are switching to burger flipping because they can make the same money then you aren’t paying the new market rate.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The problem of judging past events with the cultural norms of the present
11·5 days agoThomas Paine was the lone voice among the founding fathers of America who consistently and without compromise saw slavery as immoral and incompatible with the new USA. As a result, he died alone, poor and forgotten.
I judge him with the cultural norms of today and I judge those around him who heard him and chose to disagree.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
Can’t decide if to down vote you for “soccer” or updoot you for funny. Argh. Got a headache now.
Take this updoot and get out.

I look at itt the other way. The EU’s cookie rules require websites to allow opt-out in no more than 2 clicks. I think they’re just trying to confuse and wear us down.
I will continue to 2-click my way through these things and not worry too much. If they wanted to break the rules then they can do it all anyway and ignore my clicked preferences.
