Flexibility. If everything was a thick, rigid bone we would be far less agile.

Energy. I imagine maintaining bone density for thicker bones would require more food to be consumed.

Medical. Breaking bigger bones would be more traumatic and debilitating than breaking smaller bones.

Just because you and your friends don’t use it, doesn’t mean it isn’t being used. If 95% of AI is useless then why are hardware prices so high? The demand must’ve dropped off by now if all the hardware they bought to date is going unused, because why would they be buying more?

Companies are definitely using AI, and not just as chatbots. I use it everyday as a search tool, to manipulate data and perform other tasks which saves me time because I no longer have to do it manually.

Most mid-large sized companies have terabytes or even petabytes of data that their AI tools are reasoning over, which requires more than the processing power of your small local model running on a Mac Mini.

I don’t disagree with you that it is impacting other industries and consumers, but as long as customers have a use for it and are willing to pay, the AI industry will continue.

Many companies operate without making a profit, sometimes it’s because they aren’t making enough money and sometimes they invest it back into the business.

Regardless, SpaceX is about to go public with a valuation of $1.8 trillion, and they arent profitable.

But we still have CGI movies, we still have coal mining companies, and we still have steel manufacturing companies. AI companies may fail, but the AI industry will continue, which was my point.

They aren’t artificially creating this problem, they are inadvertently creating this problem.

AI companies need RAM and other compute components to feed the AI beast which drives up demand, and cost but reduces supply for everyone, including their Xbox and Surface divisions.

Given their enterprise divisions make vastly more money than their consumer divisions, nothing will change.

I’m not saying changes aren’t coming, if they can’t make a profit off it then they’ll need to adapt or die. So it will either get more expensive or more efficient, but I don’t believe the bubble will burst and there will suddenly be a fire sale on cheap data centres or their hardware.

AI isn’t going away, there may be some consolidation of providers and right sizing of costs but AI is here to stay. Too many big companies have invested too much for it to fail.

If the manufacturer is required by law to have a camera to monitor driver fatigue then they’ll make use it for other things like this.

Depends on the car. I think Tesla’s are always connected, but other brands you have to put a SIM card in so you have a choice.

I get the concern, I wouldn’t want to be monitored constantly by a 3rd party, but in this case I think it’s just for safety (monitoring driver fatigue) and convenience.

You don’t login, the car recognises you and adjusts settings such as the seat position to the way you like to have it without you having to do it manually, it’s a convenience thing.
