  • This is getting ridiculous beyond anything. I don’t believe for a second this can really be applied, China being the real makers of every and any everyday object bought in the US. Even stuff proudly labelled “made in the USA” is often the assembly in the US of Chinese parts from the pencil or lighter to the refrigerator and the tin can containing corn. Those tariffs wouldn’t last a week. Also, what I just said here is enough to make a few countries start dumping their US bonds if those tariffs last more than a few days.

  • also, depending on where you live, it could get quite hard to keep up with crossing the t’s and doting the i’s legally. some countries want you to keep erchives for x years, some want you to answer to police requests within a short time, others do not consider hijacking as an excuse for a nefarious use of the server of which you are responsible etc. I chose to host a server once, was 8 hours late on an update. got fucked but finaly got my case heard. I’m now using a lan only facing nextcloud server coupled with a VPN connection when I’m out and only use my domain for mail (outsourced the server though).

  • Different countries give different rights for their EU residents. The required minimum is EU parliament vote, but countries may or may not extend it to other elections. The participation to local election votes is quite recent in France (about 10 years). I don’t see how we’ll make them vote in more elections though without a change in the constitution (the blocking words are usually “representative of the nation” or “national electorate”, they clearly ban foreign votes, even if they our our most trusted friends.
