I haven’t downvoted a single one of your comments. I’m asking questions I wanted answers to. Sorry people don’t like what you’re saying, but I’m trying to have a conversation.

So what’s your issue? What does “not speak like an elite” even mean? Politicians speak like politicians and they do so for reasons I’ve already outlined. She isn’t talking down to you, she’s empathizing with you. What do you want her to say? You want her to talk like the room is filled with post-doctorates? How does that help a chronically under-educated populace who literally can’t afford get a good education, let alone pay attention to anything of substance after sifting through our hellscape of a media?
She isn’t Trump, of course. I don’t think anyone in Lemmy is asking for her to be. My point was that repeating yourself and speaking simply literally just won an election. “Me, good. Other guy, bad” as a message, works. Bernie has been repeating himself for longer than I’ve been alive. He’s been right about everything he’s ever said in the simplest of terms. Why do you think he keeps doing it? Because it’s still true, and people still need to hear that message.
As a PAian who voted for him, I never liked his wardrobe. I actually hated it. Dress for the job you want bro. But the fact is I voted because of what he said, not how he looked. I voted for him because of what he seemed to represent ideologically, not because of his privilege. I was wrong and he had a stroke and I want him primaried.
Half the population is below average intelligence. As a politician you have to speak in a way that is both to the point and emotionally charging to get your point across as simply as possible. It’s the best way to actually reach the most people. You also have to repeat yourself ad nauseam. It’s just a pitfall of the job. Simultaneously, they have to treat people like idiots and not treat people like idiots.
It also works. Remember all those signs in yards this past election cycle that said “Trump: lower taxes, Harris: higher taxes” and “Trump: good for America, Harris: bad for America”? They were wrong, and simple and they worked.
The complete thought policing of the internet is starting. All free speech absolutists are coming for free thought.
And don’t care.
Thanks, we know the rest of the modern world has it better in literally every way literally everywhere else. Can someone just like invade and save us please?
I experienced this recently with music via a small music community, and it felt really good and motivated me. Hope it lasts.
why didn’t you vote?
edit: I guess i see what you are saying now. Still pretty easy to misunderstand it though. I voted against him too. Not sure why i’m getting downvoted. Maybe people think i agree or disagree with what’s being said based on a simple 4 word question. Lemmy be weird sometimes.
I saw a react to this interview. This guy is so out of touch with any actual reality. He probably had trouble playing a g chord on his dad’s guitar in middle school, got laughed at and decided to make sure musicians would die out. Fuck this guy.
It’s so easy to read, worth starting over. If you read fast you’ll get through it all in a couple months.
Yeah it’s most definitely a space opera. There’s so much good science in there though.
The Expanse is a great at engineering read. Doubly so for a space opera. Lots of very legit science in the science fiction there.
I didn’t even know that’s what they were doing with the new Tron. Count me disappointed.
Tron and GitS are actually two of my favorites. Their aesthetic captured me at a young age and I’ve been hooked since. The Expanse was a really good, real-feeling semi cyber-punk series (books and show).
I try and use less words to get a point across, but in no way do I blunt or soften the point I am trying to make.
Could just field record people talking. Or checkout Citizen DJ. It’s a sample library run by the Library of Congress.
I recently found my Radiohead Kid A stickers that have been waiting for the perfect placement since 2001.
