Here here, I join you in this endless quest to conserve. Just like my great grandmother freezing half her gallons of milk, just in case the Great Depression were to return.

They dropped these in my mother in law’s suburban neighborhood. In her back yard. With no warning. My dog found and ate one, so it had me googling what the hell my dog had just eaten and wondering if she was going to die. Luckily we didn’t have any toddlers playing in the back yard.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto United States | News & Politics@lemmy.ml•US women are being jailed for having miscarriages -BBC 2021322·2 years agoThey arrested an addict whose drug use may have led to a miscarriage, or who may have just had a miscarriage completely unrelated to the drug use, or a mixture of multiple issues.
There is no difference between this and obesity, alcohol, smoking, or poor diet. Obesity has a voluntary aspect to it, and increases your chances of miscarriage. Eating non-nutritious foods, micro plastics, not taking prenatal vitamins can all contribute to miscarriage. Getting into a car accident while voluntarily driving while pregnant, staying with a violent husband who beats you while pregnant… I mean where do you draw the line at making the pregnant woman 100% responsible for anything that happens while she is pregnant?

They let the bill proposing to make unborn children dependents on your taxes die. So we get all the punishments, and none of the benefits.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Couples race to move frozen embryos out of Alabama after court defines them as children15·2 years agoUnfortunately they made embryos children for the purposes of punishments, but let the bill die that would have made them dependents on taxes.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Frozen embryos are “children,” according to Alabama’s Supreme CourtEnglish2·2 years agoEven before this I would get really pissed when people casually said “It will happen when the time is right. God has a plan, though it isn’t one we understand.” In Alabama I was recently at the dentist, getting my teeth cleaned to the tune of religious music, hearing the hygienist say this bullshit to me.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Frozen embryos are “children,” according to Alabama’s Supreme CourtEnglish19·2 years agoThat is not legal. They have made embryos children when looking for people to put in jail, and not children when looking to give out benefits. Very convenient for the state budget!
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Frozen embryos are “children,” according to Alabama’s Supreme CourtEnglish16·2 years agoNo the religious zealots here do not. School coaches require prayer before practices and games, same sex couples get banned from prom, kids at school get tricked into going to fun after school events that turn out to actually be evangelism stunts. A lot of applications to educational programs, gymnastics programs, and jobs ask about “leadership” which is code for experience as a church deacon or active evangelist.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Frozen embryos are “children,” according to Alabama’s Supreme CourtEnglish12·2 years agoWe almost got this with Alabama 2023 bill HB182 which would grant unborn children as dependents on taxes. The bill didn’t pass. These people want children to count only when dolling out punishments.

Sure, cool. Make health insurance cover my IVF then.
I called all the local PCPs today. One entire hospital system doesn’t accept my insurance (Cigna) due to price negotiations. All the others don’t have new patient appointments until December. So I guess in about 11 months, I can find out if I’m healthy!

TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Tech bros' attitude to female colleagues stuck in dark agesEnglish51·2 years agoIn order to avoid obnoxious replies, I intentionally chose not to name the particular country I had in mind. The point still stands – there are going to be people in the workplace from cultures with more misogyny than others. And the culture they grew up in will have had an effect on their attitudes.
TellusChaosovich@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Tech bros' attitude to female colleagues stuck in dark agesEnglish128·2 years agoYou have no idea that some cultures prefer women barefoot, pregnant, and cleaning their house rather than in the workplace? You have no idea that many cultures are not used to having female bosses over male workers?
This could be an automated reply based on keywords in your comment. If so, then I imagine the bot was likely meant to argue with anyone who said breastfeeding increased SIDS risk.
As a FTM this year, I am so tired of the mom police saying everything is dangerous without really understanding the contributing factors to go with the risk, and without considering the magnitude of the risk. Yesterday I saw a lady getting corrected online about babywearing while toe deep on the edge of a creek because she might fall in the shallow water and her baby would drown.
