Even mentioning Chris Minns bending over backwards for the Zionist lobby feels a bit uncomfortable in the context of this thread. (But seriously, fuck Chris Minns for bending over backwards for the Zionist lobby)

Games@lemmy.world•What personal dramas have you witnessed with/among your fellow players while gaming?English
10·2 months agoBack in my teenage days of vanilla WoW I was the sole Australian in an American guild. There was a girl who was about the same age as me who sometimes came to our 20 player raids, and I was friendly with her but didn’t really have a lot to do with her (and even if I had, I was on the other side of the world). However, that modest, friendly interaction was enough for one of the other guys (who was also about the same age as me) to message me in the middle of a raid to say that “she’s just pretending to be a girl for attention, you know”. I think I just replied “ok” but I was baffled by that apparent jealousy because the thought hadn’t even crossed my mind (again, I was on the other side of the world from them, and I had a huge crush on a girl at my school at the time that I never acted on).
Another unrelated anecdote from that time, I had one (different) guy tell me that he had assumed I was about 25 years old with kids, and was surprised to find out that I was only 16. I guess it was the accent?

It’s like this in Australia as well. Teeth are luxury bones and don’t deserve to be covered by Medicare it seems.

World News@lemmy.world•Former Australian politician jailed for more than five years for sex crimesEnglish
21·3 months agoThe article mentions it in passing, but I want to point out that the accusations came to light in 2021 and he was kicked out of the Liberal party (they’re the mainstream conservative party in Australia FYI) and suspended from the NSW Parliament when he was charged in 2022, but he was still re-elected in 2023 despite criminal charges hanging over his head. Even after he was convicted he took legal action to fight against expulsion from the Parliament rather than resigning like any MP with a shred of integrity would do, and only finally resigned literally hours before the expulsion vote was to be held (which was definitely going to pass).

That is actually one of the more believable things about the image. It’s totally possible to take a photo of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge behind it like that, but the giveaway is that the place on land where you can get that angle is further away and doesn’t look like it does in this picture. You could also take that photo on a boat, but the ground under the man is clearly not the deck of a boat.
Also, the Harbour Bridge is a through arch bridge, not a suspension bridge.
