Technology@lemmy.world•‘Invasive, deceptive, and unlawful’: Texas says your TV is tracking you illegally, and is suing to stop the dreaded Automatic Content RecognitionEnglish
4·18 hours agoIf the question is vague bullshit like this, the answer is “no”.
I don’t disagree with the sentiment, but only in America do people view having a job and ONLY enough money to pay all your bills and keep you alive to be a fate equivalent to death.
This. LLMs aren’t going to become intelligent, but they can fake it well enough that morons will think they are. Those are the people we need to worry about.

Google@lemmy.world•No YouTube, I'm not turning off my VPN. Nice try GoogleEnglish
01·2 days agoRight, but they would need to prevent the entire planet from using VPNs to ensure that they aren’t Uzbeks trying to illicitly access this camel content.

Steam@lemmy.ml•The antitrust case against Valve is falling apart after plaintiffs used weak, unreliable sources to counter Valve’s sworn statementsEnglish
5·2 days agoWON was a multiplayer service that was ALSO a early foray into online game distribution. Somewhat ironically as the platform on which Valve’s Half-life was originally published.
The modern era of online games distribution is pretty closely tied to multiplayer hosting because those were the games that were primarily targeted for online distribution in a world where MOST games were offline and physically distributed.
Steam launched its own platform to compete with WON and moved all of its own titles over there. The biggest controversy associated with that was that Valve sent out a patch over the WON servers to move all the existing WON enabled games over to the new Steam platform.

News@lemmy.world•U.S. military willing to attack “designated terrorist organizations” within America, general saysEnglish
23·2 days agoGiven that “domestic terrorist organization” is a term that has no legislative or legal meaning and was literally just a made up category for Trump to put “antifa” into, it seems like this general is actually answering that question for us.
There is exactly ONE “designated terrorist organization” in the United States and its “Antifa” and the mechanism for this designation is that Trump decided it.
He is happy to deploy the military specifically to target any group identified by Donald Trump as his personal opposition.

1582·2 days agoIts a mistake to believe that this is an irrational or ignorant decision. These guys KNOW what the message of PBS is and there is a reason they don’t want it to get to kids. They are making child soldiers and they don’t want people giving them inconvenient values.
You guys are telling jokes while the other side is building an army. Maybe start taking this shit seriously.
