  • Our people are horrible, vindictive morons.

And I don’t mean that from a place of emotional response to bad things, I am saying all of this dispassionately and analytically. The country has a large population of people who are objectively horrible, and vindication has become our primary focus for political action, and this is all because they’re generally morons.

I can’t even really exaggerate or overplay this. The average American’s intelligence is worse than abysmal. I used to lead a team of data-workers at a large company, we had nice, casual morning meetings and talked about the latest events for about a half hour before work. I ended up in the position of people bringing me news stories and headlines to “translate” for them. I had to explain what planets are, I had to explain how gravity works, I had to explain how democracy works, I had to explain history and math and facts and ratios and words like “industrious” or “ambivalent” every day, over and over. AND I’M NOT A SMART PERSON. I have always prided myself on being informed, but at some point I became the one-eyed king in the land of the blind and I hate it.

Everything here is going to get so, so much worse because I know how far down the barrel goes, and we haven’t even touched the bottom yet.

He was Time’s person of the year too. Funny that you got a downvote for speaking this but it’s so important to remember.

All of this is correct, but people get really pissed at these facts because we live in a demented cartoon world where the majority of people run on reactions and feelings, so if they read anything other than emotional condemnations they lose their shit. Which is exactly why we have another set of Hitlers gaining power without resistance. Because you idiots out there can’t get it through your thick skulls that people like Hitler and the Nazis were PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME. Not monsters, not inhuman creatures, but idiots who thought they were doing the right thing because they let reactions and feelings guide them.

I’m confused what they think they’re washing off.

A LOT of kitchen practices in families are passed-down traditions, with a lot of people not really knowing why they do the things they do.

My Filipino family-in-law washes their cuts of meat, which yeah is entirely unnecessary and I always wondered why they do it, then I traveled to the Philippines and saw the town where they lived, and most of the local butchers hang fresh cuts of meat up on hooks, uncovered, right next to busy roads and sidewalks.

I genuinely don’t know how everyone there hasn’t died of acute food poisoning from the unrefrigerated meats in high heat and humidity, but they at least like to wash off the road grime and dust.

Then it will come at the worst possible time.

I was watching Arcane on Netflix with wife and her family a couple nights ago. The very beginning, where it deals with loss of family, I just immediately lost it, like I had been shot. I don’t even remember what the show was like, I just cried with my face buried in my hands the whole episode. Totally came out of nowhere, I was fine a moment before.

The room was dark, so nobody saw but my chest was heaving and I couldn’t even try to move to excuse myself because I knew I was about to let out a loud screaming sob. I sat there for a full hour hyperventilating, worried someone was going to turn on a light or hear my breathing.

I have spent a lifetime being “the guy who takes care of everything” and the stoic fighter, always the one encouraging others. I couldn’t deal with the fallout of freaking out everyone, they already know I have anxiety disorder and really, really don’t understand mental health, so if I started acting erratic everyone in the family will start walking on eggshells around me.

So to those browsing down here: “Why do men keep everything inside?”

Because of how you react when we don’t. Your ideas of what it looks like to express emotion as a male is not connected to reality.

  • I’ll add that I currently live in a house full of women, I’m the only male and women can absolutely fucking DESTROY bathrooms. I’ve never cleaned so much piss, beauty care debris, hair and blood in my whole life. Maybe lets chill on the gender bullshit before you get yourself so hyped up you have to retreat to your friendly discord server of mindless, performative people who support your every stupid idea.

  • Why do you put men in quotation marks? Almost seems like yer trying to stir up some trouble, pardner.

If the men around you can’t aim or clean up after themselves, that’s a them problem. And I guess a you problem if you have to deal with it, but even more so if you’re too chickenshit to call it out. I’ve never left a bathroom less clean than when I went in, and a lot of people have this same attitude. A lot don’t, but a lot do also.

The AI cult/singularity bros is absolutely a bootlicking cult, if not licking the boots of the giant tech companies that have no intention of making the world better, then they’re licking the imaginary boots of some kind of AI-mommy that they predict will just “be invented” any day now, aaaannnny day, and that AI will make everyone wealthy.

Literally, they think an artificial super intelligence will help them pick stocks and invest and everyone will be rich. Don’t dare ask how, just believe it. Don’t ask what the several billion people are going to do who live subsistence lifestyles working land and manual labor to support our entire infrastructure. I guess they’ll also pick the right stocks and get rich and all the presidents and corporate leaders will just throw their hands in the air as their accumulated wealth becomes worthless overnight.

I am so tired of human ignorance and escapism. We gotta live in the now, and solve the problems we have right now, and stop finding creating ways to blame others so we don’t have to do the hard shit.

Even if it’s not fake, in every other instance, if you have a bad dentist who says shit that makes you uncomfortable, you get a new dentist, happens every day, bad dentists get bad reviews and open shitty practices in bad neighborhoods and people expect the care to be substandard. Rarely do you even hear stories about that kind of thing because people have normalized dental care.

The fact that this shit is controversial shows just how far we have to go before people start taking their fucking minds seriously. You know, only the most important part of your physical, living experience.

Reminder that surnames didn’t exist before the middle ages, you just had a singular name that people shouted to get your attention. Since you lived in a community of several dozen people, you didn’t need to do much to differentiate yourself from the other “John” in your town because everyone knows each other. You lived and died just as “John” and would be remembered by your kids for a generation if you were lucky. There was no need to keep track of genealogy, you were a pair of hands and legs, you were supposed to get out there and plow that field and that’s all your baron or lord cared about.

But somewhere after the black plague ravaged Europe and we lost a sizeable chunk of the human population, suddenly workers became in high-demand. Industrialist lords and landowners suddenly didn’t have people smithing their horse shoes or making their bread, so they had to go poach people from far away towns and suddenly workers had power and options. As a way to get noticed for your family’s tradeskill, you would have been wise to advertise this to wealthy employers, the best way was to attach your trade to your name. You were now John Baker to differentiate yourself from John the Drunkard if anyone came looking to hire someone who could cook bread.

So surnames are advertising. It’s all it’s ever been. There’s nothing ancient and special about your name, it was just how your ancestors tried to make a buck.

Can we also talk about how much everyone, everywhere relies on service industry workers and how much everyone would absolutely lose their goddamn minds if they had to make their own burgers and fries twice a week, AND how these staple institutions, jobs we deemed so important that we made people work at them during a pandemic, how much the prices of these sandwiches and snacks has gone up in the last few years, how even bringing up the possibility of increasing minimum wage for these difficult and demanding jobs leads to an entire social “discourse” and fierce debates about if people should be able to afford things.
