Good on people who come (very late, granted) to realize and denounce their own stupidity, but:

1. Absolution requires effort. If these people don’t actually attempt to unlearn the bigotries that led them here, then they just want to slide back into communities that are nicer and avoid consequences
2. Do not financially support them. The money spent on this shitty merch is better used on their victims, there are many food banks in your community that can often triple whatever money you donate to them.

Protests are basically giant rallies of people in your area who are motivated by similar grievances as you. The protests by themselves don’t do much but you can discourse and connect with other people who attend them.

• Yes, we have to change the rules. It’s actually very rare that oppressive laws are overturned through entirely legal means. “I can kidnap, torture, and kill people if the state says it’s okay” is not the same as “Holy shit suspend that immediately I don’t care if it’s against the rules to do so”.

I think it’s safe to say the literal best thing to do when confronted by ICE is to try and leave, they will just ignore any identification and it’s better to not be caught alone, have some people near you and work on cardio if you can; of course this doesn’t help much with the door-to-door shit, so having emergency+legal contacts is also very important

Everyone’s already pointing out “well doing nothing isn’t helping” but I’d like to point out there are many steps between Doomscrolling and Suicide By Cop, such as talking to your neighbors and joining community projects to build your local resiliency.

Go to the library or search up stuff like “charitable orgs [zip code/city/whatever]” and see what you can do. You can’t do anything if everyone around you is too broke and stressed, anyways.
