Hexbear is the most trans-inclusive and minority respectful internet community I’ve ever been to. I keep seeing people talking about it like it’s the gateway to hell but it’s usually a pretty friendly place when I’ve gone there, they just have… unorthodox politics and don’t back down when pressed. First time I went there I was a little disappointed to find it wasn’t full of demons gnawing on the bones of the innocent but was actually just a pretty chill place. And their news megathread has a lot people from 3rd world countries posting world news I don’t see other places which is mainly why I keep checking in there.

That’s not what freagle said though. The argument wasn’t that jjj shouldn’t write or that they shouldn’t try to influence people, the argument was that they shouldn’t be wasting their time and energy trying to influence people to vote because voting is ultimately useless. Freagle never said that trying to influence people period is a waste. So no, what they said did not ring hollow and there was no hypocrisy in writing a long a comment explaining why it is a waste to try to get people to vote or to vote a certain way.

You either didn’t understand or deliberately mischaracterized what freagle was actually saying so you can’t claim it was just constructive criticism.

I just want to say it is so refreshing to finally see a comment from someone who genuinely understands power and oppression finally shine through in a thread that has been so muddled and confused it’s been maddening to read.

I think at least part of that comes from the fact that the most vocal feminist and anti-misogynist (and ant-racism, etc.) instances get defederated by the admins of big instances like .world which tends to concentrate the more reactionary elements into instances like .world even though it has the larger user base. Since the people who would tend to be the most vocal fighting back against the dudebro types are in a different section of the fediverse that .world cuts itself off from, those voices aren’t heard and so the bigger chunk of lemmy (.world) gets a well deserved reputation for being worse than reddit in terms of crying, fragile (and white) men being overrepresented in the user base.

Ikr? Just for starters, using Operation Paperclip as an example of something good and positive to back up your point, when supposedly your reasoning for defederation is based on the concept of the Nazi bar? That is some seriously wild pro-fash hypocrisy.

A major part of it is because those who do mount any kind of actual resistance that has any potential for being effective, they get murdered and disappeared. E.g. Black Panthers, or the original leadership of BLM before it was coopted by liberals. Any genuine leftism in the US has been effectively eradicated by outright murder, intense anticommunist propaganda campaigns (targeting every segment of society from elementary schools to popular media control to even workers unions themselves), and direct infiltration and dismantling of leftist organizations of any size. This society is practically built around a pathological individualism that neuters any potential for mass action. Our culture has been cultivated to only accept rightward expressions of political dissatisfaction, with no room for or even basic understanding of leftwing organization.

It is still helpful to be heard and minimize harm.

Voting does not accomplish that! Voting will NOT make you heard and voting will NOT minimize harm. Your insistence that it does accomplish these things is what is harmful.

Telling people to do useless things saps their energy away from doing things that actually are meaningful like organizing. Voting is used as a tool by the bourgeois to get people to think they “did their duty” politically, so they can relax and not worry about having to do more even though “more” is still the bare minimum (voting is less than bare minimum). You have been duped by the bourgeois. Smarten up.

I’m curious what tendency of leftist you do consider yourself, if any. Clearly you’re not an anarchist, u/Cowbee who I trust said above that you do not consider yourself a Marxist-Leninst. What tendency do you come closest to aligning with?
