For me at least there’s something personally empowering about making change to my body and apparence. Like it makes me feel confident just to be able to do it. Also working out is just really good for mental health on its own. If you feel confident and healthy that might translate to a better social life too.

My friend kind of disappeared on me. We started out by dating, and it was great for the most part. We did decide to just be friends after a while, but then we were actually friends and it was so nice. We lived near each other, and would get together at least like once a week for the last few months. It was usually pretty casual, like we’d get coffee or work out together or he’d come over for dinner. Sometimes we’d end up spending the whole weekend together tho. It was honestly so nice having a friend like across the street, it’s been years since I’ve had that.

He has family living in a different state, and visited them over the holidays. The day he flew out, we got breakfast at some diner he likes and then I drove him to the airport. That was the last time I heard from him. I expected him to be busy with family and stuff, and I wasn’t to surprised not to hear from him at first. I did ask him how the trip was going a couple of times. Anyway, know it’s been a month and I haven’t heard a thing. None of my friends who know him have heard anything either. He hasn’t posted anything to social media in a while either. The trip was supposed to be over by now I thought.

I reached out to one of his friends, who I don’t know as well. I think I fucked that up tho. Like I was way too direct in asking about him and I think I weirded her out. I should have been smarter, but I was just worried.

I mean he doesn’t owe me anything, but it would be nice to have a little closure. Like I have no idea what happened. Did he not feel the same way about the just friends thing? Or did he just decide he didn’t have time for me for other reasons? Or did he decide to stay with his family and not come back, which wouldn’t surprise me that much honestly. Or is something wrong? I feel like I’m never gonna know and it sucks.

I don’t really understand the name change part. Are people not normally allowed to change their names? In the US you can just go do that whenever, for whatever reason. As long as it’s not something ridiculous, and you pass a background check, it’s just a bit of paperwork and a small fee.

It’s super funny that so many zoomers have just moved to another (more) Chinese app. So obviously the reporting has been about that, and not the fediverse. They want to replace posting with AI slop. On Facebook, they’ve noticed that even really lame and obvious AI stuff gets lots of engagement from people who don’t understand it. Since engagement is the only thing they care about, they think they can literally replace content creators and posters with AI and keep people logged on, browsing their own personal slop algorithm, forever. It’s expensive to run AI, but less expensive than paying content creators or moderating / censoring. But they haven’t quite figured out how to make this happen yet, so they’re experimenting with different modes. Maybe the AI pretends to be a person, or maybe something else.

The comments on that article are horrible, and I agree with you about the hypocrisy.

But honestly I don’t think posting random trans guys and being like “do you want this man in the bathroom with your daughter???” is very useful or positive. For one thing, it reinforces the idea that masculine people cannot be trusted around young girls. This idea causes just as much grief for cis men and masc lesbians as it does trans people. Also, the people writing bathroom ban laws do not know or care about trans men. They just want all of the f-slurs to disappear.

I second that everyone should go get it changed. Some companies will use a federal background check program when they hire you, and if there is a mismatch between social security record and other forms or ID it can be a problem that prevents you from starting work.

I think that there’s a huge overlap between very religious people and neurodivergence. Like it’s pretty easy to see how monastic life would appeal to autistic people. If I wasn’t an atheist and they took trans girls it would probably be great for me lol.
