Amen! Please spread this idea wherever you can. We‘re actually starting to gain some momentum. People around the world are starting to understand that things need to be actually done. They need to talk to others, call their representatives, write emails and letters ans things will improve.

These are the things I think of when people say „strikes dont work“, „strikes have been defanged“, etc.

And equally important: another proprietary service that has a single point of failure which is large enough that governments will know about it and target it if they want to silence dissent. Federation or completely standalone is the only way to go imo.

Important: you do not need to have an account on a peertube instance. You can follow from nearly (iirc) any fedi instance. I have successfully done so from mastodon and I have heard lemmy should work, not sure though. You just copy the address of the channel you want to follow from the browser and paste it in your search bar on mastodon.

The discoverability is incredibly bad. Peertube has a ton of videos and more servers than lemmy by a long shot iirc. The problem is that the „frontend“ has seen no love like ever. There recently came an app which is nice but otherwise, its very underloved.

Feel free to voice your concerns in !peertube@lemmy.ml for example. The devs should be available through the fedi somewhere.

I think the idea in itself is good. Imagining an instance where a whole lot of reddit communities mirror just for safekeeping. Using this will likely get you banned from reddit in 10 seconds though. It is a very powerful way of stripping reddits walled garden so they will fight it tooth and nail. What we need is legislation to protect something like this.

My personal opinion is twofold:

1. they need a diversion. Like a magician (or more accurate a pickpocket) they will take anything to make people blind while they amass their power. It is a sickness of the mind. They are addicted to power and ever anxious to loose it. Minorities are a good enemy for the people to blame the problems on that these people either cause themselves or dont want to take care of. In the past it was witches, nowadays it is other minorities.
2. minorities have been fighting for a place in the world for a long time and there have been significant improvements. But that is not a positive development if you want to rule supreme. If you‘re power crazed, you need people to fall in line. Otherwise it wont work. We have ample evidence that only a sufficiently subdued population will not rise up against authority.

Mods and admins are mostly for technical and legal issues. You can choose your instance by the rules or male your own. Managing your convos is your job on the fedi.

I think thats reasonable. Thats why we have different instances and communities with different rules. Works great imo.
