  • It’s a lack of feeling, you don’t really feel sad, happy, angry, etc. I think one of the biggest things a lot of people think of when they think of depression is it’s just being sad but it’s not really.

Really depression is the lack of everything that makes it interesting to live, to feel. You lack energy to do anything, and getting out of the hole feels monumental. Any small progress can then have you fall easily into the bottom of the hole after making any progress.

It’s also happens that it causes circular reasoning and continued re-emergence of questions that can’t be answered or you’ve already answered. Ruminating on thoughts leads to feeling tired mentally and physically and exacerbates the problem of depression, sending you further into the void, feeling even more emotionless.

Depressions greatest trick is to tell you that you can’t change anything, that you want to feel this way forever and unfortunately can lead to the worst scenario.

  • When I get into these states, I tend to start by drinking water with a good amount of electrolytes. There’s a lot of times where I just don’t do anything and I don’t wanna leave the house but anytime I drink water and I take a walk consistently. It helps a lot.

Being indoors and constantly on a computer is not good however, much you do like computers or video games.

    And I do it consistently.

One of the main things that I had when I was very depressed was the fact that I would get dehydrated and I didn’t realize it and it would make me very sad which stopped me from drinking water or doing other stuff.

No, I’m not going to pretend that water is the only thing but it’s a start.

  • Yeah, the hate is unwarranted.

As always, there’s people who will basically take the it’s evil no matter what path. If they feel that heavily about AI, they probably shouldn’t be using anything that uses Linux. Which is basically just about everything on the web.

Hank was using it to create some games and do research for his videos. An AI is really good at creating code and for that purpose making a small game. AI can help you research things by finding and searching for things relevant to what you want, but then you need to rely on actually understanding what is being cited.

There are obvious downsides to AI and all the data centers and everything but going about and saying no matter why AI will never use is just a fool errand.

It’s worth push pushing back on data centers and what not And I am involved in several of those movements. But AI bad is just a stupid take, Especially when Hank is using it for all intents and purposes pretty responsibly compared to some people at larger companies.

  • Tailscale and the other tools people mention is an option.

Another one that’s a bit more costly unless you already have it is UniFi gear can do site-to-site VPN which can make it pretty easy as well. Other router gear has it as well, UniFi just makes it easier. This would put each others networks next to each other and you could access them as if they’re in the same home.

And then of course just wireguard direct connection.

There’s a lot of options, matters only how DIY you want to make it.

Unless you have fiber at the house with the server, you’ll probably run into issues with streaming these ways without transcoding, even with transcoding gear… cable upload speeds and reliability can be middling.
