Not once have I had a usable voice mail UI. Forced to go through 10 seconds of menu between each message to delete and select the next one, and 90% of them are people just hanging up after realizing they hit voice mail. Then the few times I do get an important message, I have to replay the full message multiple times to transcribe the number I need to call. No seeking, no ending the playback after I’ve passed the bit I needed, often terrible audio. Why do you do this when you have my email?

The part that isn’t straightforward is what information is needed in order to make an informed decision and what is reasonable to provide to a sexual partner. Of course. There’s the obvious requirement of consent before the act and continuous consent throughout the course of the act. Things become a lot less straightforward when it comes to revoking consent after the fact. I’m not convinced that violence is ever warranted in these scenarios.

I’d say that the main difference between the two is that the video you posted says “person X says they want to do Y”, whereas QAnon is more like “person X secretly wants to do Y”.

The main reason for me is the implication of a certain legal status when you say husband/wife/spouse and that of a short term relationship when you say [boy/girl]friend. The only word I know of that says long term relationship but without the legal status is “partner” or “significant other”.

When it came to email, we didn’t care about the system becoming too centralized. They were all run by large companies that had the resources to keep things running for a long time, so no need to consider how long your email will survive. Most people didn’t even know they had options. If someone you know made an aol email, then you also made an aol email. The content you receive is exactly the same regardless of where you sign up. No need to think about who federates with who, or how the instance gets moderated. Email is email.
