In undergrad, our engineering 101 course had a team project/final to use the Lego robotics kits to make a robot “mars rover”. There was a play field, and we got points based on the ability to touch ping pong balls, carry ping pong balls, and return ping pong balls to the collection area.

Points were deducted from teams based on “material cost” (each Lego had a price) and “labor” (time to build your robot). Scores were doubled if your robot was autonomous, which was mostly achieved by following black lines on the white table, because the Lego kits included light sensors.

We got to the last day , and realized that what we had was NOT going to work. We scrapped the whole thing, and made a tiny car that just ran straight out, hit a ball, and ran straight back.

On the mission day, they moved the table out of the sub-basement and into the classroom. The change in lighting jacked up everybody’s pathfinding, so everybody’s guidance failed. We failed the cheapest and won the day.

Still can’t figure out of the test was a catastrophe or if we learned the EXACT lesson that he was trying to teach.

I freaking love the dedication of Marathon Investigations. On one hand, I think, “it’s a dirty job but somebody’s gotta do it.” But on the other hand I think, “Does somebody REALLY have to do it?”

Our Wegmans always had 2 grinders, one was supposed to be dedicated to flavored beans, and the other was supposed to remain “pure”. The grinders were still there about 3 years ago when they re-organized the entire store. I don’t remember if I’ve seen the grinders after the re-model. I’ll check next time I’m there.

Fair. I’m at the point in my life ( 40 y.o. with 2 kids) where I would gladly pay money to a group that makes it easier to dive more often.

Mostly, I just talk everybody’s ear off until they decide to spare themselves and just get certified. This is how my wife, her good friend, and her good friend’s husband all got diving and then, naturally, we’ve gone diving together.

Also, anytime I’ve done a course at the dive shop, I usually get a phone number or two to open our group up a little bit.

After I got certified, I went about 10 years before I went diving again, because I live in Northeast Pennsylvania and it’s not like I’m tripping over other SCUBA divers wherever I go.

Funny enough, subsurface is kinda’ the reason I switched to Linux. My computer is over 15 years old, and I really wanted to wipe it clean but I had no way to re-install windows if I did so. Even though it was BARELY usable, I was holding on to it because it’s the only way I had to download dives from my dive computer (I think I got the last one sold before switching to wireless uploads). Eventually, I found out that subsurface existed, and then I took the plunge.

Subsurface was kinda’ my first exposure to the idea that somebody(s) would take any time at all working on software that they couldn’t either sell or use to collect sellable data.

Omg I’ve never been able to do a magic eye before, but I think there stereograms just unlocked it for me! I Feel like I get it now, thanks!

Yeah it is amazing. My wife breastfed both of our kids unti they werel about 2 years old. I can help with bath and story time, but it means I miss the absolute best cuddles. There are a lot of advantages to not being tethered to the child, especially when bedtime isn’t going smoothly, but I’d give it all up for those sweet sweet cuddles.

People I work with were shocked to learn I share a toothbrush with my wife. This being a work chat, I had to settle for, “Wait till you hear what else we share”… But I like yours way better.

If I understand statistics, this means we can fight global warming by simply ramping up piracy!

My wife forbids me from getting any large appliances for any 1 thing, so I could never convince her to get a ride cooker. Instead we got an InstaPot that we use exclusively to cook rice. It’s way different (trust me)

I disagree. I think you want to keep a small MOI because that allows you to control a tipping carton with the least amount of torque. At least that’s how I’ve been justifying by method of taking from the outsides, in.

It’s much harder to control a stick with weights in the ends, ESPECIALLY if the weights are unbalanced (which they will be unless you’re only using even numbers of eggs. )

2. None of this matters in my real life because my wife is a chaos goblin who just grabs eggs from WHEREVER she pleases, almost like she’s not even considering the mass moment of inertia at all!

I’m essence, yeah. I had nothing but nice things to say about the current company I was working for. Liked my job, like the company, boss, etc. Whenthe interviewers asked why I was leaving I told them that it was a small, family owned business (not my family). I loved working there but I’m only making about half the market value for my degree. The current boss told me from the start that he wouldn’t be able to pay what I’m worth, but asked that I learn what I could there, then let them know when I’m going to move on. I relayed all that to my interviewers and they loved it. Later they cited that answer as one of the reasons they hired me.

I don’t want to haggle those things either!

We had this in our local, small town police department. Female police officer spoke up and blew the whistle on somebody that was accepting BJ’s to let tickets slide.

The department “downsized”, let her go, then re-upsized to hire a different person back. Then they said her allegations were just in retaliation for being let go. Then she sued for wrongful termination and I THINK she ended up winning.

I might have some of the details mixed up cause this was all going down JUST as I was moving into the town.
