Been there, done that, never attempted CRT repair after that.

Politics@sh.itjust.works•Trump signs order blocking states from enforcing own AI rulesEnglish
32·22 days agoCool story bro. As far as I’m aware, presidential executive orders don’t carry any weight outside of the federal executive branch. Unless those state laws are superseded by federal laws passed by the legislative branch, that executive order is worth less than the paper it was printed on.

Politics@sh.itjust.works•ICEBlock app sues Trump administration for censorship and 'unlawful threats'English
61·26 days agoSure, it’s a first amendment violation on the part of the US government, but even if ICEBlock wins the case, it would then be Apple’s choice whether or not to reinstate the app. With the Trump administration’s hostile position on it known already, what incentive would Apple have to distribute it?

51·29 days agoOP didn’t show work, and I don’t know how they arrived at the numbers they did.
If we handle inflation before exchange:
15 shillings is £0.15.
£0.15 in 1843 is £16.64 today.
£16.64 is $22.22
$22.22/week is $1155.44/year.
If we handle exchange before inflation:
15 shillings was $0.72 in 1843
$0.72 in 1843 is $31.52 today
$31.52/week is $1639.04/year

Surely not nuclear, coal, or natural gas power pants with steam generation cycles.

101·2 months agoSure pricing hasn’t been announced, but people can start speculating about the BOM.
No, they have a plan to automate the destruction of the environment after our demise.
I’m perfectly fine identifying cars that have proper names, but the mid-luxury brands (BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Infiniti, etc.) eschew names for alphanumeric gibberish. I can’t be arsed to remember all their numbering schemes. And Teslas largely look the same to me unless they look distinctly like a dumpster. I can’t tell an S from a 3, or a Y from an X.
My boss has a plastic one in his office and I was actually surprised how light it was. A quick search says metal ones can weigh 50 pounds though.

Technology@lemmy.world•28-pound electric motor delivers 1000 horsepowerEnglish
21·2 months agoI tried to sanity-test the math here running the same calculations on a 700 kg horse, of which around 50% mass is muscle.
700 kg x 50% = 350 kg
Low:
350 kg x 100 W/kg = 35,000 W
35,000 W / 746 ≈ 47 hp
High:
350 kg x 200 W/kg = 70,000 W
70,000 W / 746 ≈ 94 hp
Despite what the term “horsepower” would seem to suggest, a horse can actually output more than one horsepower. Estimates put peak output of a horse around 12-15 hp. By those numbers, even the low end estimate above is around 3-4x too high. We’re gonna need more dogs.

Trans Memes@lemmy.blahaj.zone•come on, give the bros some credit
38·2 months agoYes, it’s called a hysterectomy. Around 600,000 people get them per year in the US, so very common.

I think you’re reading into it a little too hard. I don’t suspect an optional mode based on what’s written there. Those power specs come from the USB Power Delivery 2.0/3.x standards. There’s 9 Volt USB PD that can supply 27 Watts at the 3 Amp ceiling, and the next step up is 15 Volt USB PD that can supply 45 Watts at 3 Amps. Since a 45 Watt charger is the one that’s recommended, I don’t expect heat issues there.
