  • yesy yes thanks mozzilla i love logging in to work on monday morning to find a new homepage with “thought provoking stories” about:

    • jannik sinner being op
    • who is still using floppy disks, by geopop.it
    • best pictures about the chinese new year celebrations in italy, from viaggi.corriere.it
    • how the new trash tax works, by today.it
    • NBA players that are also rappers (😱😱😱 thanks mozzilla I almost missed this one!)
    • 5 types of incense to remove negative energies from your home

…and a whole number of other useless slop I will never open and I will never care about. I hate enshittification so fucking much

  • I am in a similar position, yes. I’ve resisted for so many years, but Instagram right now is the only place where some of the local organizations I’m interested in post. Clubs, town events, even leftist social centers who are usually sensible to online privacy and megacorp dependence sometimes only have an instagram or facebook page.

Right now I have a text note with the urls to the websites of the instagram pages that don’t have a newsletter/RSS feed. And another note with the link to their instagram pages, that I sometimes check out. Luckily you still don’t necessarily need to login to access an account’s recent posts from the browser, so as long as you periodically clear your cookies, a browser will do.

I also have been trying to convince some of these pages to create an account on Mastodon or use Gancio, if available. Even a Telegram channel would suffice. Some of them (two) did, but stopped to update it after a few months because most reach comes from facebook/instagram and they won’t bother to post stuff on another platform

  • Videogames 10 years ago. I was spending time on videogames basically every day. I didn’t see it as something harmful, but during one christmas break I dared myself not to play videogames during the 10 days school break. Never picked up gaming since then. I sold my PS4 six months later. A few years ago I built myself a gaming PC with the intention to use it for gaming but I’ve actually never bought or downloaded any game

I still play local multiplayer games every once in a while with I’m over at some friends’ place (eg. party games as Stickbold, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Fifa), or online tabletop games such as hangman, gartic phone, geoguesser or boardgamesarena.com

  • oh yeah this definitely counts against the good things about christmas :D I live in a relatively rich part of Italy where shoplifting is very rare, and if you’re not wearing “suspicious” clothes (eg. clothes that might suggest that you’re poor), if the store is crowded and the staff is busy and you make the anti-theft sensors ring while crossing them, they likely won’t even question why they are ringing and just assume an anti-theft tag wasn’t properly removed during checkout. when I was a kid I’ve stolen sooo many videogames this way during christmas season, my parents where just too good looking to the staff that nobody ever suspected a thing lol

  • The NYE party/vacation, and the xmas dinner with the extended family. Basically the only two things I like about december. Everything else is just a giant advertising ploy or an excuse to cover up how alienated, cynical and out of touch the western world is during the rest of the year. It’s very frustrating for me because I cannot overlook the very evident consumerist and narcisist side of Christmas

  • I had a similar experience with ketamine. I accidentally did a line that was a little too long and k-holed for the first time. During the trip I convinced myself I went insane and that I would have had to live the rest of my life inside the mind of an insane person, with no chance to ever experience the outside world again. But I was ok with that, I was like “well, it happened. Nothing I can do about it. I just got to roll with it now” lol. Then I snapped out of it. Never touched ketamine that weekend again, but the following week I wanted to repeat the experience.

Ketamine is not a psychedelic but a khole can make you experience stuff that maybe only DMT can. Illusion of timelessness, lack of physical dimensions, absence of linearity in time and space, it’s something I’ve only been able to experience during my first k-holes
