Thanks! I look forward to hopefully seeing some of your stuff on here 😊
Blender has a steep learning curve and it can be pretty disheartening at the start (or certainly that’s how it was for me). But the important thing is to stick with it, try to enjoy the process even if the result isn’t what you hoped, and eventually you’ll get there with enough tutorials and messing around.
Thanks 😊
In case anyone is interested, this was actually a remake of an old render of mine (which was also a lighting test). I wanted to take the same scene a year later, and give it a totally different vibe.
Which do you prefer?
The older version:
Yeah I went for a value of 2 on caustics because I liked the magical effect, even though it’s not physically accurate. Maybe should’ve stuck with 1 😅
Thank you! It’s a plane with a marble texture from Poly Haven, and then I mixed the roughness with a custom grunge map for some imperfection
I think both of you are oversimplifying.
Choice and freedom take on an entirely different meaning when you have a state media bombarding you with anti-Ukraine propaganda 24/7. It’s easy for us to say from the sidelines that we’d never get swept up in a war against innocents, but probably a lot of the soldiers have been fully indoctrinated with the idea that Ukraine are a threat to their families. Not to mention they probably now have friends and family who have been killed or wounded in this war.
Putin is the real villain here. He not only started the war, he’s the one who has kept it going by his refusal to withdraw troops, silenced political opposition, lied to his population, influenced global politics in his favour by buying elections, and used his subjects as fodder in this pointless war.
It’s fucking twisted the amount of suffering one thoroughly evil man can cause.
Thanks! I used Cycles.
Originally I did have more grunge / dirt on the floor and glass, but I found it was taking away focus from the key parts of the scene so I ended up removing it entirely. Maybe there’s a more subtle middle ground somewhere
And a few more variants of this scene. Let me know if you have a favourite
My partner is a scientist and has to travel to the US for work later this year. We’re both dreading it, given all these stories of people being detained at the border.
Same scene, different perspective
Oh man, that takes me back.
Well maybe you were cleaning it wrong
Thanks! ✌️
Here’s the original which I made back in 2020 when I was first starting out 🙏
Of course, always happy for people to use my art as wallpapers 😊 I’ll probably forget to message you but once I’ve worked on it a bit more, I’ll probably do another post. So if you keep an eye out you can use the finished version
Before I did it the other way round, and I’d start building the scene and model things as I went. The main issues with doing it that way round were that modelling became slower as the scene got more detailed (so eventually I’d give up making new things), and I also ended up modelling a lot more things because I didn’t really reuse assets as much.
This may all seem like common sense and it’s probably how most people work, but up to now my process was always building staff when I needed it rather than making a load of assets in advance.
