I use Carrion, you can download a database of high confidence spam numbers and then take the internet permission away if you’re on GrapheneOS to ensure there’s nothing being transmitted. It also enforces stir/shaken.

I know you said no services but I didn’t really find any SMS apps that I enjoyed and found more satisfaction with an alternative service so I’ll detail that below for anyone curious. My favorite of the regular SMS apps had to be QKSMS though - nice customization options and it has message scheduling.
If you’re looking for a higher level of privacy (the most you’ve get with an insecure protocol like SMS at least), I’d check out porting your number to https://jmp.chat/ with https://cheogram.com/ as a VOIP number. You save a lot of money and at least after initial setup, you don’t have to stick to Cheogram as your XMPP app - I switched to Monocles which is still open source and available on F-Droid and all of my VOIP numbers still work fine. Same said for desktop - I use Dino and have access to all of my texts right on desktop.
Then you can just use a data only SIM on your device to stay in touch when you’re out and about if you’d like. That SIM still has to drawbacks of basically being connected to your identity through your IMEI but at least presumably most of the time while you are connected to WiFi, you have the option of disabling the SIM if you’d like and be able to use your phone number without giving your location data to your carrier. I choose to keep airplane mode on all the time and just have the data only sim for emergencies. If you want to go harder, jmp also accepts cryptocurrency as well as some data only SIM providers such as https://silent.link so you could completely use decentralized currency to pay for your phone service which is kind of cool.
I believe it is possible to self host the XMP server that is interfacing with your SMS number as well but at the end of the day SMS is already basically cleartext across the network with how many eyes are on it so I felt comfortable just trusting the servers they provide as part of the subscription.
Notesnook, an e2e notes app with a nice design, has the option for any note you make. “Pin to notifications”
This is the closest I’ve been able to find - JMP which is used in Cheogram, a FOSS XMPP app, was working on it in May but I messaged them about it recently and there hasn’t been much development on it unfortunately. https://blog.jmp.chat/b/may-newsletter-2024
They allow you to have VOIP numbers and even a data only SIM with no KYC and pay in crypto if you want so it’s a pretty cool project overall. Maybe if more people message them about RCS it will become a higher priority.
Kvaesitso has won me over as a nice looking and very customizable open source launcher
I liked Image Toolbox but Exodus reports it uses Firebase Analytics so I ended up sticking with Metadata Remover.
Another gen-z here, yeah I have no interest in something that requires me to pay insurance even if I’m not using it when my ebike gets me everywhere I need to go. Not to mention having way less potential to hurt someone else because of a lapse of attention on the roads. Add on the health and environmental benefits and that I don’t pay for electricity in my house so it’s free to fuel.
Lots of these comments feel out of touch or just in touch with their own ideals a little too much.
Same issue on v20231128
I’m also confused; my version from the Play Store is v23. Edit: Oops I guess some broken comment hierarchy is still present in my build cause I couldn’t see all the replies from Sync. Edit 2: Ok so the beta version isn’t the same as app version, you can see beta version in parentheses here Settings shortcut: Everything else > Sync for Lemmy So I guess there are still some of these issues in the latest beta because I have beta v29.
The 10.0 Android beta removes the premium only limit so it should be coming soon once it gets to stable.
Darn, maybe they took the database offline & mine just still works because I set it up months ago. Unfortunate because it works really well for me
