This is actually why I installed Bazzite on my desktop and suggested it to all my friends and family who were interested in Linux.

If anyone has a problem, I’m already familiar with the distro and I can be reasonably certain that the software situation is pretty close.

As a Silverblue-based distro user, I don’t need root to do any of that.

Agreed. I’m a software dev and I also have a ton of weird and niche hobbies I use my PC for and I’ve never run into anything I felt like Bazzite prevented me from doing. Even if they didn’t offer the super convenient developer edition.

For example, the immutable root partition doesn’t stop me from adding udev rules in /etc.

In fact, DistroBox gives me the freedom to use any package from any distro I want, including the Arch AUR.

Anyone who says Bazzite is “too limiting” doesn’t understand how it actually works.

Why is an immutable distro a hurdle to using Rust? Rustup installs the toolchain and cargo into your home folder by default regardless of your distro.

OctoPi is the Linux distribution for the Raspberry Pi that has OctoPrint preinstalled.

+1 for Bazzite. It’s the non-distro that gave me the confidence to ditch Windows entirely last year after using Linux for work and occasional things for over a decade.
