  • I do know (sort of, we have talked a few times, we are not really friends) an openly queer person IRL, good point. (Only exactly 1 person. I truly lack social skills and I don’t know many people in general.) But how would I ask that question without being inappropriate? In a world with so much hatred towards queer people, it sounds like a really bad idea for me (not openly queer) to just walk up to this person (openly queer) and be like “Hey, you’re non-binary, right? I am trans, can you tell me about any trans meetups?”

Maybe it’s irrational, but I kinda worry about being seen as an imposter

What do you need your families support for top surgery? For them to pay for it or be on their insurance?

I can barely take care of myself / cook food / etc. when I’m healthy, I will definitely need help with that when recovering from a big surgery…

Currently, I also live off their money as my own part-time job does not pay enough, but I hope that somewhen in the future, I get a better-paying job. (Or maybe instead the economy collapses and I never find employment again and go die, that’s probably the more likely ) Maybe then, I can save up some money. Good point.

Is that possible for the hormones, too? Paying for them out of my own money instead of insurance? Or are the only options either going through whatever processes the insurance needs, or buying it from shady places online? I looked up “informed consent”, thanks to someone on here suggesting it, but unfortunately that way doesn’t seem to be offered in this country

And everything else aside, just having them navigate all the bureaucratic mess and schedule appointments would be incredibly helpful, they got much more experience with how to get these system to do what you need them to, if they were on my side, I probably already could have started transitioning

I hope your family comes around

Small hope that maybe I can somehow convince my mother, at least she doesn’t actively hate trans people

  • Thanks for explaining rat-salute-2

Good point, if it’s just backups of things like ISOs and ROMs and movies, then it doesn’t matter if the cloud provider reads it

How do you plan to host a Nextcloud? I tried researching how to set up a web server, but it’s either self-hosting and putting up with only having a dynamic IP and whatever other restrictions your ISP got, or paying for some virtual machine on a server in some data center, so instead of trusting the cloud provider you now have to trust whoever you’re renting the server from… Which probably isn’t much better? Sorry, I don’t know much about internet stuff :(

  • Yeah, I also got a big HDD (4TB, though it seems like it’s slowly becoming not enough for all my backup stuff…), I do backups to it. Though the problem is that it’s an external one that isn’t always connected, so the backups must be done manually (connect HDD to computer and then run script), which means I end up not doing them even nearly as often as I should…
Also, the HDD is physically close to all the other computers, so if something happens to this room, then everything is lost…

I assume your big HDD is permanently connected to some computer and the copy happens over network? Do you trust the cloud storage enough to let them have your data?
