This is for when there are multiple comms across instances, for example there’s !science@mander.xyz and !science@lemmy.world and a .ml version

Same with !memes@sopuli.xyz !memes@lemmy.world and the .ml version

If your interest is in science, it costs you nothing to post to mander.xyz’s version and is a cheap contribution to the overall health of the Fediverse

If the only version of a comm is on .world, that’s fine, that’s not what the meme is about (though if it’s on the Tankie Triad, I’d encourage you to create your own community on your home instance, which also contributes to your home instances growth)

I run my own instance and I just never post anything anywhere. I just shitpost comments in everybody else’s business. Thanks for all the memes internet people.

I originally used corndog.uk because *.uk domains are extremely cheap and I thought it combined a stereotypically American thing with a UK domain which struck me as funny. Then I decided to use the social TLD and now I’m locked into paying $23 a year just for the name.

Thanks for validating my dumb ideas.

If you can advertise your community and get some people to subscribe it’ll get seen fine.

If just one person from .world subscribes to your community, it’ll appear in all .world users “all” feed.

Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t but .ml on the same level as the other two. On the other side, the other two are very open and clear about it which makes .ml subversive and maybe even worse

There’s some tankies on hexbear but overall I find the people I interact with on there pretty lovely. The other two tankie comms are just straight tankie.

IMHO there’s a range of people on every instance. Instance is a sticky decision we make hastily that follows us around for years, like an email address or an immature username.

For example one of the commenters under this issue mentions being “stuck” on .ml.

When .works first federated with hexbear, I got a flood if people defending Russia, China, and North Korea. Maybe it’s changed since then, but I got much more tankie content from hexbear than .ml.

The load balancing bit was mostly a joke, Im not calling for Lemmy posters to have a CCNA LMAO, but it doesn’t hurt to spare an extra second or 2 when you’re in the community search drop down on the posting screen

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren’t unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don’t rush mod actions. If a case doesn’t need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
