This prompted me to look up whether Esperanto is growing or declining. These numbers seem optimistic:

UEA members over the last 100 years (Universal Esperanto Association)

Number of participants in popular Esperanto meetings in Germany:

Also according to Duolingo there are 1.2million people learning Esperanto, which is up from 1million in 2018.

Given these things the vibe I get is that it is a growing language worthy of some optimism.

There were some IRC chatrooms for practicing it years ago. Looks like maybe the Discord server is the most active place now?

            It’s more like… Hmmm… A space soap opera that is really more-ish?

Yes I’d recommend it if you can put up with it trying too hard to be shocking every now and again. CW: There is a lot of gore and T&A but the nudity is not the sexist male gazey kind and the gore is mostly used to show that war is bad. It also deals with PTSD so that might be a hard read for some.

thanks, I’ll probably give it a go, is there a certain issue where it ‘gets good’ if it doesn’t grab me to begin with?

To be fair, the title feels a bit clickbaity, 'cause it really just means that this is the only university in China offering an Esperanto major. There are certainly a much greater number of people in China self-studying Esperanto in their free time, even if they aren’t taking proper classes in an accredited educational institution.

Breadtube if it didn’t suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It’s open submission unless there’s something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it’s currently in.
