    The actual headline is…

Scoop: 20,000 federal workers take “buyout” so far, official says

I changed it because - of course - it’s safe to assume that anybody connected to Trump is lying.

    • Thank you for this. It’s something I’ve gotten in genuine arguments with my journalist friend about. In these situations, you have to put the context of the claim before the claim itself.

“20,000 workers resign, Trump official says” sounds much more concrete than “Trump official says 20,000 workers resign” on its own and adding the necessary “If true” helps a lot too. This is how all headlines about anything said by this administration should be treated.

A friend of mine was seriously planning on quitting their job with a federal agency to instead stay home and raise their kids, but held out till after the election to see what would happen. Needless to say, they replied “RESIGN”

They’re still planning out finances with the assumption that they’re not going to see any of the promised money, but worth a shot!

Trump-based lies tend to be super-lazy and America has a huge number of stupid people. So I think it’s possible 2,000 people took the buyout and the Trump administration simply multiplied that by 10.
