Or do I have to make a community to do this? Because I don’t want to be banned from a bunch of communities for promoting my articles that I wrote.

This is actually a feature in Reddit for those unaware.

You can make a comm for it, or post the articles in a relevant comm. Or, you can make a mastodon account and do it that way.

It looks to me like that’s functionally just posting in a subreddit created with your name, in which you’re the only one allowed to post. So creating a community on Lemmy with your name and you as the only authorized poster would serve the same function.

No. This is actually a Reddit feature1000001332See the first entry for where to post. And yes, this is a throwaway account.

I’m aware of the feature, it’s been around since before I left. I’m saying that it looks functionally like they coded it to be nothing more than a subreddit named for you, in which you’re the only one allowed to post. They may have put some sort of flashy nonsense over the top of it, but that’s pretty much what it is.

I think lemmy is a lot less averse to users posting their own content as long as there is a proper summary, it isn’t a youtube video and you disclaim it. I would also avoid cross posting.

Maybe you can message the mods of a few communities ahead of starting to post just to be safe.

A community is also a good option. Pretty sure you can make it so only you can post on a community so it ends up filling in the same functionality.

Make your own community and cross post. Cross post, cross post, cross post. Some people complain about it, but they’re being too precious about their timelines. It really makes Lemmy better.
