People probably know me by now but I’ll explain my situation again. I’m a thyroid cancer patient. The treatment has given me so many side effects that it has ruined my life. Amongst other things it caused me to have a stroke, which has left me partially sighted, with my left side so weak I now have trouble walking, and such severe problems with balance and co-ordination that I have trouble doing basic things like getting dressed and using stairs. Despite all this the DWP awarded me zero points at my benefits re-assessment. I appealed with help from citizens advice, a pro-bono paralegal who helps benefit claimants, a social worker and multiple letters of support from medical professionals. I’m currently awaiting the outcome. In the meantime I’ve needed help accessing food and other basic supplies like toilet paper, sanitary pads and toothpaste. I used the local food bank and a facebook group who provide food to low-income people for a while but it was awful. I know I’ll sound ungrateful for saying that, but in my experience, a typical food bank package consists of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, cookies, doritos and a tiny loaf of bread or small packet of pasta. It also takes a long time to access the food bank so the package doesn’t last long enough. I was often going hungry and developed several nutritional deficiencies (diagnosed by the doctor with blood tests). The NHS prescribed me supplements for these deficiencies but that wasn’t filling my empty belly. In desperation I tried selling my prescription meds online (I had nothing else to sell) and got banned from a website for doing that. But before I was banned someone on there told me about Hexbear’s mutual aid, which is how I ended up here.

The DWP check people’s bank accounts and I could potentially get in trouble for receiving actual money, so I’ve been asking for Sainsburys supermarket gift cards instead. The disability charity Scope told me it’s fine and legal to accept gift cards and food vouchers. I can use these to buy food and toilet paper. If anyone is able to buy me a gift card and send it to my email address, I’d be grateful. Some people here have my personal email address, which is still usable. For security’s sake (because I’ve had some trolling and security issues using my real identity) I’ve created a new email address especially for this too. It’s DisabledAceSocialist@hotmail.com

I sometimes also need to make separate posts asking people to buy me things whenever I need something else (like sanitary pads, laundry disinfectant, dental supplies, etc). Some of the things I need aren’t available from sainsburys and it would also eat into the sainsburys gift cards, which wouldn’t leave me enough for food. So if anyone would be willing to send me an amazon gift card so I can just buy these things for myself in future, instead of having to keep asking for extra help, I would be really grateful.
