FMA fans have precisely one joke, but damn, it’s a funny joke.
That Fullmetal Alchemist episode is perhaps the most traumatic piece of anime I’ve watched to date, not counting Grave of the Fireflies of course. I haven’t watched Brotherhood, but is it in there as well?

The original anime diverges from the manga about 2/3 in.
The later FMA: Brotherhood doesn’5, but it’s quite condensed in the early parts (where the two overlap).
Both are very good.
I find Made in Abyss to be peak fucked up traumatic, myself. Just like the entire thing.
Mostly because it’s young children.
It is, however, one of my favorite series. It’s beautiful, with mostly bright happy colors, and a true sense of awe, which makes it that much more fucked up.

Sweetheart, Brotherhood is the original. The one that released first is a fanfic that went too far (both figuratively and story-wise).
the most traumatic bit of anime for me was the animatrix where the human pilot got ripped out of his mech and carefully torn to pieces by a machine while he’s screaming in terror for his mom to save him.
that was traumatizing shit to watch as a kid.
Maybe my brain was already too cooked from seeing awful stuff on the internet at the point where I watched the Animatrix, even though that’s hard to believe, I was still in my 20s back then, but I’ve totally forgotten that scene. Maybe it’s time for a rewatch, I have rewatched The Matrix a few times this year already after all.
Berserk would probably be at that level as well.
Brotherhood follows the original manga and picks up after this story, so you don’t see it in Brotherhood, but it happened.

No-no, you watch it because it’s a good anime, memes are just a nice complement to that.
It is a good anime but Its been out for years and maybe if they keep seeing it referenced theyll get around to watching it. The episode in question is basically filler and doesnt provide much to the overarching story

There isn’t much at all of that stuff it from what I remember.
It was more about the two brothers who messed up a couple things with alchemy and their journey to find the answers to fix them.

Doctor alchemist dad murders them both and combines them into a chimera, Its later revealed he did the same to his wife who “left” him.
People like to reference this because it was a well written horror short that threw everyone for a loop. Its both a form of traumabonding and way of messing with people who are in the know.
