It’s valid… I had a 9mm pistol cartridge that had gotten wedged in a tiny pocket of a backpack.
TSA didn’t appreciate it. I had no idea. Lol
I backed The Oatmeal’s Exploding Kittens kickstarter years back (game was fucking garbage and loses its novelty after the first game), and had brought it with me to Canada to play it with some friends. The two boxes each had a small device inside that meowed like a cat whenever the lid was opened. The TSA did not like that one.
We play exploding kittens almost every day 😅
What didn’t you like about it? Every playthrough there’s twists and unforeseen events.
Try taking an actual cat through security.
Reminds me of stories from years ago now. Google once had a product called the Nexus Q, which was sort of a prototype predecessor to the Chromecast. Its form factor was a softball-sized sphere, covered with various ports to connect to TVs or audio devices.
There were several stories around the time it became available of people triggering bomb scares at the airport when their Nexus Q was packed in their luggage, because the TSA saw “round, electronic” and had no idea what else it could be.
I don’t travel often and don’t really bring things out of the ordinary with me when I do, but I’m always worried some scenario like this is going to end up being my luck.
I was once stopped by security at a train station because I was carrying (in my hand) an analog guitar effects pedal.
I’ve heard plenty of stories of people going to rsa or defcon and getting held up with backpacks full of assorted cables and all kinds of electronics.
… Again
This is me, kind of. I’m just brown enough for 9 months of the year and have just enough anxiety in crowds that literally every time I go through airport security, I can count on the fact that I’m going to be “randomly selected” for enhanced screening. Whatever they use to make that decision does not like sweaty, anxious looking men and/or the dark hair / brown skin combo.
Me failing to hold in a fart while reading about the prohibition of “bombs” in the security line.
I always wonder what people pack in the big suitcases. I only ever take one carry-on, and it’s not even full. Clothes, phone, wallet and keys. What else do you really need?
Depends on how long you’re traveling for, what you’re doing at the destination, and what resources are available to you there.
Also to a smaller degree, it depends on how big your clothes are. When I was a stick bug of a teen, I was able to pack enough clothes for two weeks with no access to laundry in a small suitcase about the size of two backpacks, with room for souveniers. Now that I’m a fatass office job worker, that same space holds a week of clothes for me.
Not to mention sports coat, suit jacket, etc if it’s some professional thing you’re doing. That shit and the shit to protect that shit takes a lot of room.
That’s where I keep all my bombs.
