Work involves a lot of Google product usage, and I’ve switched to Vivaldi for that (I was using Edge prior). For personal use, it’s been Firefox forever, but I’m trying Librewolf and Waterfox now to see how they work for me. Firefox really seems like it’s lost its way.

I think its popularity as a viable alternative to the google dominated browser ecosystem contradicts this.

So long as it’s an optional feature that doesn’t impact core functionality, who cares?

People who hate AI because it is the buzzy new thing, not because of any other reason.

Maybe this is a 4D chess move by Mozilla, making everyone leave Firefox which makes Chrome such a monopoly that Google has to split with it. Or maybe it’s another braindead CEO or CTO pushing AI into their product because it’s the latest fad…
Thank jebus that Vivaldi has said they won’t go down that route. They may not be 100% FOSS, but I trust my Norwegian brethren more than whatever Mozilla is doing.

Waterfox has been great so far. I only switched from Librewolf because updating that on MacOS is frustrating.

The updates tend to trip up quarantine. I was using brew auto-update, which did not play nice with this app.

LibreWolf messes up time zones and makes scheduled content appear at unwanted times. That would normally be fine if there was a way to temporarily switch to your normal time zone in the settings for scheduled posts and chats, but they provide no way to do this without major tinkering in about:config (or whatever the experimental page is); that’s why I returned to Wx, which, yes, has been nearly flawless so far.

There are extensions for overusing time zone. But yeah, I hated that, too. It’s another mechanism that it uses to avoid fingerprinting.

I get that and I know there are ways around it, but none of them are official from the LibreWolf team; that’s what rubs me the wrong way. We have to find our own side alleys to bypass it, which is absurd. It infuriated me when a video I scheduled got uploaded at 2 AM or whenever instead of 9 AM, which was what led me to uninstall that deceptive software. I never saw any warning about the forced time zone-changing…

I’m currently using Vivaldi and it does what I need it to do. I tried to stick to ideals by not using chrome engine but lately the Firefox engine had been trash for me. Really poor video playback, laggy scrolling, significantly slower page loading.

I don’t know what’s going on over at Mozilla, but the quality of Firefox has tanked really bad. I was a Netscape user, then Mozilla browser then Firefox. But I just can’t keep dealing with the frustration. I just started trying other browsers like Zen and Librewolf but they had the same crappy performance for me. Decided to try out a chrome based browser and for now I’m content with Vivaldi’s offering.

On Mac and iOS I really like the Orion browser and I’m waiting for it to be ported to Linux. Ladybird is another one I’m keeping my eye on.

This is where I’m at right now and I’m sure in the future it will change again.

No idea what I’ll turn to if Vivaldi ever takes a nosedive, but it’s been 10 years and it’s the best browser I’ve used.
